There was a time when I always felt cold. These days, it seems like I go from comfortable to roasting in seconds. Maybe it’s the baby weight I’m still packing, 9 years after “the baby,” or we could blame the dreaded hormones that can’t make up their minds. Whatever it is, I’d be happy to wear sleeveless shirts all the way through winter. The air conditioning is turned off after school to save electricity, and within seconds of 4:00 pm, I’m breaking a sweat. Sound familiar? I’m not sure if these are the hot flashes I’ve been told about, but that instant overheated feeling is definitely a problem. Then, some genius invented the Cold-Flash and all was right with my world again.

A few days ago, my son (age 9) commented out of the blue, “Mom. You’re lucky, you got to spend time with your grandfather.” He’s right. I am lucky! My grandfather was such a sweet man. I miss his quiet goodness and gentle chuckle. I had the chance to eat his famous pancakes and watch Gunsmoke with him. Grandfathers are special people.
I didn’t get to see the movie Healed By Grace, but the second movie — Healed By Grace 2 — is precious. Also, now I know what a Rubber Ducky story is.

Making the move to middle school is a big transition for kids, and the changes aren’t just academic. In my 21+ years of teaching, you’d be surprised at some of the questions kids have asked. Thanks to Google and smartphones, it’s so much easier to answer those questions now…or at least, point kids in the right directions to find their own answers. Still, do you remember the days when you turned actual pages in order to glean information about a topic? Christopher Lloyd to the rescue!
