Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.

I’m always up for a suspenseful read that features a strong heroine. At almost 400 pages, A Distant Grave kept me reading for several days but it was worth it! I loved the main character, Maggie D’Arcy, and her tenacious determination. This is the second book about Maggie, and I didn’t read the first. It was easy to catch up on her story, though it sounds like book #1 was pretty good, too.

Maggie’s life is crazy hectic. She’s a single mom with a teenage daughter, a boyfriend who lives in another country, and keeps up with a super stressful job as a New York detective. I couldn’t keep up with all that she had going on! Her story reminded me of Rachel Caine’s Stillhouse Lake series, which is one of my favorites.

There was a bit of a romance in A Distant Grave but it did not take over the story. There was some strong language and some pretty graphic violence. Overall, it was interesting and intelligent. I would definitely read another book in this series!
