As a teenager, I enjoyed participating in the Bible Bowl competition each month with my church friends.  Through the Bible Bowl program, I was able to learn how fun it was to socialize with other Christians my age.  We also attended the NACC a few times where we got to listen to fantastic Christian music artists.  My cousin introduced me to contemporary Christian music; we loved D.C. Talk and Audio Adrenaline.  Attending live concerts was more than exciting.  It was exhilarating!  I loved the music but, most of all, the concert atmosphere promoted a sense of community.  I hope that my children will enjoy concerts like this when they get older.   Our family enjoys listening to our local Christian radio station.  Because of this, my kids are familiar with many of the artists who are on the schedule for this year’s Winter Jam.

I’m a creature of habit. Like a favorite pair of jeans or a favorite meal at a restaurant, reading a book with familiar characters and nostalgic scenes gives me a sense of comfort and peace.  Even as a teen, I read the same books over and over when they caught my attention.  Today, I tend to do that when I want to revisit a character I loved or need some mindless satisfaction in a book.  My preferred form of “favorites” usually comes in series books.  That’s why books that take me back to a familiar place have a permanent place on my bookshelf.

A great example of this type of book is Love Without End by Robin Lee Hatcher.   [Read more…]

40 days to lasting change

If you’re good with this, remind me never to share chips and dip with you.

Just kidding!! When I saw this on the back of a tortilla chip bag, though, it made me think about Kyle Idleman’s book 40 Days to Lasting Change. So many of us live a “good life” in which we’re happily parenting our children, working at our jobs, and maybe even preparing a homecooked meal every once in a while. Meanwhile, there’s this ulcer of pain or bitterness or despair working its way through our hearts. The ulcer may rear its ugly head now and again but we push it back down with more Christian niceties. Since others don’t see it, we try to pretend it’s not there, that it didn’t happen.

If you want to see active, lasting change in your life, consider the AHA challenge. I reviewed days 31 and 32 of this challenge. [Read more…]

Blogger opportunity – Sign up with IZEA

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of IZEA for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

I haven’t always been a blogger, but I have always been pretty vocal about my opinion.  My childhood doorways were usually decorated with handmade “No Smoking” signs and other awareness posters.  I was that girl who collected money for UNICEF instead of  asking for Halloween candy.  Blogging seemed like a natural extension of my desire to connect with other people through the fabulous worldwide web.  When I learned about the opportunity to monetize my blog, joining IZEA was a no-brainer.  You can sign up with IZEA, too!

Snowed in? So Read!!! A Star For Me book

Disclosure: I received this book to review. Opinions shared here are 100% mine.

As we enter the new year, you might be experiencing some cold days. You might even have snow!  One of the best ways to spend a snow day, in my opinion, is to cuddle my kids in a soft blanket with a stack of books to read together.   A Star for Me is a dear book to share!  Hopefully you haven’t put away your Christmas decor yet; this one can go right along with your basket of Christmas books.
