Enjoy mobile your way!
Why consider a new cell phone plan? Close your eyes….. (well, not really, since you won’t be able to read. Just pretend to close them.)
Imagine yourself in the Magic Kingdom with your family, trying to meet up with your BFF and her family while they’re back at the hotel. Each of you is trying to coordinate the ETA of your party, while trying to keep the kiddos from seeing the Tinkerbell autograph line or maybe jumping into Lake Buena Vista from the ferry. Your text limit might just slip your mind, or you might think that you are way under the limit since you’ve only sent a few messages.
Then when you get home from your exhausting, expensive, and wonderful Disney trip, your cell phone bill arrives. Didn’t you notice in the last statement that your cell phone plan had been changed? Nope. Didn’t you check the roaming charges before your trip? Nope. Oh, so that’s why the cell phone bill is $200 over your regular amount. Oh, and the cell phone company isn’t willing to work with you at all because it’s your fault that you didn’t read the mail.
Okay, so it wasn’t you. It was me. Yep, that’s pretty much what happened. And I admit that it was my responsibility to be privy to my cell phone plan’s details but I totally thought we were within our limits (and so did my husband.) It was my costly mistake. Unfortunately, the next best option for our family was to move up to an unlimited plan which has a pretty hefty price tag. Several months ago, my husband and I decided that he didn’t need to have a cell phone on our joint account since he never used his personal phone. His work phone was always with him, always charged, and paring down to one phone instead of two just made more sense. One would think that our bill would be drastically reduced by halving our phone usage, but no. Our bill for my single phone is still upwards of $80 and I don’t even have a data plan. Unfortunately we were locked into a rate, as you probably could guess, and we have to wait until that narrow window of opportunity opens to steal away to a more reasonable plan. When I see commercials on TV for cheaper plans I want to learn more, but the contract thing has me extremely wary of getting hooked again. The fine print is like the boogey man waiting to catch me in a loophole.
I’m really interested in this new plan that is currently in Beta testing. It has the potential to save my family a lot of money in our cell phone costs, plus give us the freedom we need to use the phones the way we want. Signing up for the Beta also gives us the chance to save on the cell phones we need. Sound good to you, too? Head to the Beta sign up page and be the first to hear about the next revolution in mobile services. Imagine a cell phone world where individuals and families are empowered to benefit from mobile services that meet their needs and save money at the same time. New Beta testers can receive discounts of up to 80% on devices and up to $200 in service credits when they join the Beta. The customer-friendly company has made it super easy for you to calculate your savings without having to sign up right away—this is only available for a few days without an invitation, so take advantage if you’re interested! Thinking ahead: getting the Easter baskets ready ahead of time!
Both of my kids were born around Easter, so it’s a really special holiday for us. I start shopping early for our Easter basket goodies. Our family is not anti-candy, yet when it’s time to give the kiddos a gift we try to keep it sugar-free. I love to give my kids outdoor toys, like sidewalk chalk or jump ropes, to keep them active. Movies are also a fun option since we can watch them together over spring break. To help you save some green while watching your screen, here are a couple of coupons for kid-friendly DVD’s: $3.00 off Spy Kids DVD or Blu-ray and $3.00 off Legend of Kung Fu Rabbit on Dvd can be printed off and taken to the store. Who says the little ones get to have all the fun? Fill a basket for your teen with some make-up! Save $5.00 off any TWO (2) Almay Cosmetic Product or $1.00 off Rimmel Bronzing Product. I usually try to get my husband a little goodie also, he loves Altoids so I’ll save 0.50 off on any ONE (1) 1.76 oz. Altoids tin and tuck these in his jacket pocket on Easter morning. He’ll probably snack on them all through church! And if you just have your heart set on a sugary treat for Easter, I’m not going to judge. Take along this coupon for $2.00 off Rich’s Ice Cream Cake or Dessert and $1.50 off any two Life Savers peg or laydown bags so you can save some cash, too! [Read more…]
Sponsor Spotlight: vibeWEAR sunglasses
Spring is just around the corner and then summer will be on its way. What shades will you be sporting this year? I’ve always loved the look of sunglasses but can’t find a good reason to pay for the pricey designer pairs when online stores like vibeWEAR offers the trendiest styles at such low prices. My sunglasses don’t last long with a three-year-old boy in the house. Usually when he hands them to me, he’s holding them by the side and somehow breaks them. I’ve gone through at least four pairs in the past year due to his mishaps. Still, I don’t worry about it much when I am paying WAY less than retail for great sunglasses.
My husband prefers polarized lenses which tend to be pretty expensive in the stores. He drives a lot and tends to leave the glasses wherever he stops…..at the gas pump, at a restaurant, in a friend’s car. With FREE shipping on every order, it’s super easy to get another pair. And we’re not paying an arm and a leg, either. You can find lots of other gear at vibeWEAR, too, like hoodies and wristbands. It’s a great place to stock up for the teen in your life.
Where do you shop for sunglasses?

Sponsor Spotlight: TicTacToe socks
When I became a mom, some of my senses seemed to become super powers. My sense of hearing is attuned like a bat. I can hear my children say naughty words from across the house. My sense of smell is heightened when one of my children leaves a half-eaten apple on the floor. And my eyes, while exhausted and bloodshot, can spot a tiny pink sock half hidden under the couch and covered in toy monster trucks. Yes, being a mom is akin to being a super hero.
Speaking of the socks, it’s very strange that the rest of my laundry seems to multiply overnight while the socks tend to go extinct. I can go to Target, purchase two multi-packs of identical socks, and in the morning I am completely unable to match a pair. I’m always grateful for summer because it’s a four-month reprieve from having to find matching pairs. At least there’s now a trend that makes it socially acceptable to wear mis-matched socks. But if you have these cute knee socks from TicTacToe, why would you want to hide them under shoes? My daughter said they were warm and comfy.
TicTacToe has an assortment of footwear for all the kiddos in your family.
The gals can style it up with socks and tights that are sure to brighten up any wardrobe. The boys are going to love the fun themes in the combo packs, like the dinos pictured above. With $5.99 domestic flat rate shipping for all orders, you just might be able to spring for a whole new drawer. While you’re saving the world, that is.
TicTacToe is sponsoring a $25 gift card in the 2013 Fashionista Giveaway. Be sure to enter!
You can follow TicTacToe on Facebook.
(Note: I will receive a sample for including TicTacToe in this post. The opinions stated are 100% mine.)
On My Bookshelf: Beautiful Battlefields by Bo Stern
Sometimes it’s nice to have someone hear you. Isn’t it? Don’t you just want to vent and have someone nod their head, not answering, just acknowledging. That’s kind of what Bo Stern does for the reader in Beautiful Battlefields. Litfuse sent me this book to review and I couldn’t tell at all from the cover what the book was about. Still, I knew it would be a serious, thought-provoking read just from the cover. Bo doesn’t tell you to quit wallowing in your misery (at least, not at first). Instead, she joins in! She shares the biggest burden of her life, her husband’s fight against ALS, and what it has meant to her Christian walk. Feeling her pain is a momentary dismissal of our own; as the reader, I felt such a need to comfort her. Rather than being a bubbly book that encourages the reader to perk up and count one’s blessings, Beautiful Battlefields is a somber reminder of the commitment that a Christian makes when investing faith and hope in Jesus. Proud to be a seedie….adventures of a novice gardener.
People who are into technology are called techies. Food connoisseurs are foodies. So since I’m head over heels for gardening, would I be a seedie? I think so!
Yes, it’s snowing outside today, but I have happiness growing on my countertops. Last year was my biggest adventure in gardening to date. I’m a total novice gardener and up ’til now I’ve been winging it. I built up my container gardens, planted wildflower seeds around the pool, and harvested all kinds of good things during the warm summer months. In the fall, I decided to step up my game and find out how to really make it worth my time. In January, I purchased a few gardening books and read them cover-to-cover. The Heirloom Life Gardener and Backyard Harvest were the two favorites that I’ve bookmarked and referenced time and again. After placing a big seed order from Baker’s Creek and starting a few peat pots with seeds, the payoff is finally starting with the arrival a few tiny sprouts. I’m also thinking about taking an online vegetable gardening class so I can really maximize my time and energy. Pinterest is a great help too. The seeds you see in the photo above are various greens, peas, beans, cabbage, and leeks. I’m really excited about the bok choy because it is supposed to grow pretty quickly. I love to add greens to my pasta, so this is something that will definitely get good use here. My greens sprouted the second day (yay!) and I’m eager to see them start to get leaves. It’s hard to see them in this photo but they are definitely looking happy in their little pots. I’ve got some Grow Bags on the way as well….anxious to see if those will work. [Read more…]
I am officially freaked out now that I saw the NJ sea monster…..and other random thoughts.
I used to think the Loch Ness Monster was a very cool legend. That is, until I read this article about a real river monster and now I’m completely weirded out. I’ve never been a fan of swimming in lakes or rivers but can guarantee that I will NEVER do it EVER again. Oh my goodness. Yes, I must be completely out of touch with nature to not realize that things this enormous (not to mention hideous) exist in the waters of the US but holy guacamole, that is the stuff of nightmares. On a lighter note, here’s a funny for you — Which Test Answers Deserve an “F” for Funny? It gives me a new incentive to study with my daughter before a test because I sure as heck don’t want her test to be featured in an article someday! [Read more…]
