One-stop shopping for all things outdoors? Yes, please.

Online shopping has become the norm in our house.  I love being able to grab what I need in just a few clicks, then move on with my life.   The downside of online shopping is the evidence it leaves behind in the way of boxes from the mail lady.   When I shop from one store, it’s a lot easier to explain to the hubs when only one box arrives.  If several stores ship boxes to me, the eyebrow is raised a bit higher.  We are both committed to adhering to our budget, so he knows I won’t overspend without reason, but still.  The marriage is a lot smoother when there aren’t too many knocks on the door from the delivery person.  I had never heard of VM Innovations until recently, and it’s now one of the first stops I make online to find deals on household goods.   Let the Easter Bunny deliver a bike this year, and the shipping will be free! Downloading. Done. #boostyourblog

A true friend is someone who shares books.

We are reading fiends at the Savings in Seconds house.  We need more bookshelves before we get any more books, because our bookshelves overfloweth.  From children’s books to novels to my favorite reads from college, I just have a hard time parting with a good book.  I’m torn with the desire to share those good books with the world though.  When I read a great book or series, I’ve got to share it with someone.  Hence my “On My Bookshelf” posts……

One solution to our problem of having books fall out of the bookshelves was to get rid of some of the books get an ereader.  Or two.  [Read more…]

Get the Sillies Out! #YoGabbaGabba Live show in Asheville, NC

If you have a little person living in your house who is age 4 or under, chances are you’ve heard of Yo Gabba Gabba.   And if you haven’t, you should check it out.  Because everyone needs to get the sillies out!

I

This fun show has been a favorite in our house for several years.  Getting to attend the live show was like Christmas all over again in February.    The show we attended was in downtown Asheville, NC which is one of my favorite towns. (Check out my upcoming post about it on Tuesday 2/19.)     When the show started, it was exciting to be a part of it.  The opening was really similar to the beginning of a regular episode, except this time the audience was part of the show!!  My son absolutely LOVED that.   Almost immediately, DJ Lance had us all on our feet dancing and singing along.   I am completely convinced that DJ Lance keeps so trim from all that dancing because we were exhausted by the third song.  [Read more…]

Cute earrings with purchase….do you usually buy?

I’m curious about other people’s shopping habits.  I always wonder if other people think the way I do when it comes to deals or sales.  Now, I don’t usually buy something just for the sake of using a coupon.  If I am already planning a purchase, though, a coupon or deal can totally sway me to buy from that company.  For example,  Stella & Dot is offering their Laurel Stud Earrings for only $5  with any purchase of $100+!   This offer is only valid 2/15 – 2/18.  Now, I love Stella & Dot goodies and these laurel studs are totally cute.   They are usually $19 so getting them for $5 is a huge deal.  I’m always in the market for cute jewelry.  I could easily spend $100 on awesome stuff at Stella & Dot and if my cart was even close to the limit, I would definitely buy enough to get these earrings for only $5. BB Cream is magic on my skin. #MagicBBCream

So a few days ago I got this pretty little golden envelope in my mailbox.  No, there wasn’t a Willy Wonka ticket inside.  Instead it was a tube of L’oreal Studio Secrets Magic BB Cream.  I’m pretty much stuck in my ways when it comes to primer or foundation.  I have a few go-to products and tend to use those every day.  My skin is really sensitive and tends to react in crazy ways to new facial products.  I’ve used Loreal in the past so I knew that my skin would be okay with it.   I’ve also been curious about the wonders of BB cream so I decided to give it a whirl.

Oh my goodness.  [Read more…]

Thrifty Thursday: Ordering checks that do the trick for less

We’re very lucky to have a bank account that pays for our check orders.   We rarely write checks anymore since we do most of our bills through automatic withdrawal, but I realize that not everyone has that option.  My mom, for example, absolutely starts to quiver if I even mention using a debit card.  She uses cash and checks only.  Ever.   If that’s your preference too,  you know that ordering checks can be really simple and inexpensive if you find the right company.  Give yourself a  Valentine’s Day gift and check out these  new checks from ChecksUnlimited.com – they have so many cute designs! Their specials are great, too, with options such as Special Edition Personal Checks, Free Custom Lettering, Free Upgrade, Free 4th Box – Find out more and see how much you can save. There are many other products to choose from as well, such as stampers and labels. [Read more…]

On My Bookshelf: Unbreakable

Yes, today is Valentine’s Day, so you’re probably thinking that this will be a big post about love.  Wrong!!  I just have to tell you about this new book that I found myself reviewing…….Unbreakable is one of those books that you just can’t put down. I read the first book in the series, Inescapable, a few months ago and found it really interesting.   Unbreakable is very different in its compelling storyline.   I enjoyed it much more than the first book and recommend it to anyone who likes a suspense-filled read.  Yes, there is still the religious factor but it was a smaller part of this book than in the first.  Also, Unbreakable had enough of its own backbone to be a stand alone book.  So even if you haven’t read Inescapable, you’d still get the basic story in this one.   If you’re a fan of mystery and enjoy religious romantic fiction, definitely check this one out!
