Today a friend at work had some great news.  She’d been considering a divorce, but was able to work things out with her husband.  She said they never took the time to talk about their problems.  Things just came between them that way.  As we rejoiced with her, another friend commented that, “Marriage is hard.”  It’s so true!  Finding that person, recognizing love, and making the commitment….it’s all wonderful and exciting, but probably the easiest part of marriage.  I don’t know that I’ve ever been a believer in love at first sight because of that.  In my opinion, it takes a lot more than love to make a relationship work!  The Certain Hope isn’t really a true vision of love, but it could be an entertaining read if you enjoy romance.

Be willing to put aside your notion of adult behavior when you go into The Certain Hope.  From the first page, it’s ridiculously romance overkill.  I just don’t think grown ups really act (or speak) the way it’s shown in the book.  The characters weren’t appealing to me at all.  In truth, if Tara was my bestie (or even an acquaintance) I would have been trying to talk my friend out of this relationship.

This book might be better suited to those who like Insta-love, since that’s basically the premise of the relationship.  It’s a Lifetime movie in print.

Paperback & ebook, 318 Pages

Love at first sight. It’s every girl’s dream. But Tara Simpkins is finding out it’s not as easy as it seems. Is this truly the man God sent to be her husband, or is she just desperate to escape her loneliness? The recent loss of both parents has left her reeling, and close friends don’t think she’s in any position to make major life decisions. She and her new-found love are convinced they can live happily ever after in the home of their dreams. His family thinks he’s moving way too fast and might disappoint the kind-hearted woman he’s fallen head over heels for. And then there’s Leah. Leah is supposed to be part of his past, but what if she decides she’s his future? Tara’s match made in Heaven may be over before it truly begins.

  1. Dede, thank you for spotlighting The Certain Hope. I appreciate your time!

  2. In my opinion, this book would be great for teenagers.
It’s innocent, like them and they seem to always have some emotional drama going on in their lives – like Tara Simpson, who just lost her parents. (That made me sad). I don’t believe in love at first sight. I do believe in attractions and/or lust. That’s not love.
