When I’m looking for my next read, thrillers and suspense usually top my list. A couple of months ago I won a copy of The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek and decided to read it this week. This historical fiction had me in tears more than once. My goodness, it was good!

You should know that I’m not a straight-up romance reader. I prefer books with a strong plot, deep characters, and a bit of slow-burning romantic chemistry. The Book Woman of Troublesome Creek really met all of those qualifications. I learned so much about my home state of Kentucky while reading this book! First of all, did you know that people can have blue skin? Or that many remote areas did not have access to libraries in the 1930s. There was just so much to learn and love about this book.

Cussy Mary, the main character, is now securely lodged in my heart. She was absolutely precious….such a selfless, loving, beautiful woman. The people who supported her were endearing, too. From her papa to her patrons to her friend Queenie, the side characters had so much to offer. Though there were many sad, emotional moments — and a lot of prejudice and hatred — this story resonated with the strength and beauty of a gentle spirit. I BEG the author to continue this story as a series. I will be the first in line to pre-order!
