Disclosure: I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Opinions shared are mine.
Downton Abbey is the show I like to have in the background when I’m cleaning house or doing laundry. It’s such a different world! In The Parting Glass by Gina Marie Guadagnino, the life of lady’s maid Mary Ballard is the apex of a love triangle threatening to topple due to high society and family bonds.
Despite the 19th century timeline, you’ll find that this book addresses so many relevant topics for a modern era. Elitism, sexuality, cultural differences, and gender roles are issues found in this story. This is a deeply dramatic debut that stands out in the historical fiction genre. The NYC setting was the perfect backdrop for The Parting Glass.

Me either.
I like books that touch on current topics but are historical fiction. I just love books set in the 19th century especially.
I love to read about history and finding things out that I didn’t know about.
Reminds me of Downton Abbey and I love that and books/movies along those lines!
I love romantic novels with a little mystery catch, looks like a great book to read

I would love to read this book because it seems rare to find books about this time period from a woman’s point of view, and I think that would be interesting.
