Why do girls love sample packs and trial sizes?

Girls love things in small packages.  Small=cute and that’s what we’re all about.  Think on it for a moment……puppies and kittens.  Babies.  Fun size candy bars.  Diamonds (yes, big might be good in that area, but diamonds are still relatively small items).  When it comes to trial sizes and sample packs, many girls are right on point for those, too.  Trial sizes means there’s little commitment.  No need to splurge on a full size product.  There’s no problem if a girl needs to change her mind; she won’t be reminded of it for long.

Now let’s talk about getting those small samples on a monthly basis.  Opening your mailbox and finding a special box filled with all kinds of goodies.  It’s even wrapped like a little gift, with fun crinkly wrapping inside.  Ah, does life get any better?   Monthly subscription boxes are all the rage right now and it goes right back to my philosophy that small is fun.   When my Beauty Box 5 box arrives, it makes me smile.   Does my son wonder what’s inside the box?  No way.  But my daughter  immediately eyes the box and asks me what’s inside.  That’s my girl!

So here’s what was picked out for me this month.  My favorites are highlighted in blue.  The first thing I opened was the Illusion Lip Pencil.  Normally I’m not a lipliner kind of girl (it reminds me of bad 90’s movies) but this lip pencil is just right.  The shade was so natural that I can use it all over for defining and plumping out my pout.  Then I just cover it with a gloss.  The oil absorbing tissue by Jean Pierre Cosmetics is a must-have.  After taking my kids to the playground in the summer, I’m definitely a shiny mom.  These little tissues help take care of that for me.   The other items included in my box were a gorgeous, rich eyeshadow from Brazen Cosmetics, Instant Body Soother wipes from Eco-Beauty, and a brush hanger from Minxxette.  The Body Soother wipes are biodegradable which I liked.  It’s probably not a product I would have bought on my own, so it was nice to enjoy as a splurge.  The brush holder is one of those items I never knew I needed.  It’s great to dry out a brush after cleaning, but more importantly it can keep my brushes out of reach from my handsy son!   I’m thinking of trying it with my toothbrush.  The eyeshadow takes a while to get used to because I’m not accustomed to using powdered eyeshadow.  There’s definitely a technique to getting just the right amount on the brush. I do love the color, though.

The Beauty Box 5 subscription starts at just $12 per month.  I have always found something that I just love in my box.  What a great gift for a special someone this Mother’s Day!

Tell me your thoughts on receiving a subscription box like this.  Do you like getting things in small packages?  What products would you want to try?

  1. I love subscription boxes! I am getting several and just signed up for a few more yesterday. It is so nice to try before you buy. The latest one is Chic Maker. It is a DIY Craft Subscription. So far I have received a kit for making jewelry.

  2. I’m a trial size lover too! I have found some great products via trial sizes. I had never heard of Beauty Box 5, I’m going to have to check it our. Thanks for the great review.
