This morning was supposed to be relaxing. My sister invited my son to come over and play for the morning while my husband and daughter went to a school activity.  Sadly, my cat was injured last night (we’re still not sure how….dog attack, maybe?) and he wasn’t doing so well this morning.  I gathered my courage to take him to the vet, worried about the outcome and hoping for the best.  He ended up being just fine, thanks to a powerful antibiotic shot and some rest.  After bringing him home, I breathed a sigh of relief and a prayer of thanks. Isn’t that what we do for those we love?  We soldier on, doing what needs to be done, and feel so gracious when things turn out okay.   In the book When Last We Spoke, we’re reminded of the power of family connections.

Simple and sweet, this book has a charm of its own.  The nostalgia of old days made me smile as I remembered things like rotary phones. Filled with countrified sayings, such as “chigger in my drawers,” the story made me chuckle several times.

The strained relationship between Juliet and her sister Evangeline came to a head when they needed to choose headstones for their dearly departed grandparents.  Told from Juliet’s point of view, the story narrates the patching of the sisterhood.  I related to the story a little bit, having cleaned out my father’s apartment after his unexpected death in August.   Loss brings ’round some strange emotions, especially those we didn’t know we even had.  In some ways, that’s what happened with these sisters.  They didn’t realize how they felt about each other until faced with such a situation.  (I almost said “sis-tuation.” Hardy har har.)

Though Walt and Ruby weren’t living characters in the story, their influence rings through every page.  It’s like that with wonderful grandparents….their spirit just never leaves your heart.  Honestly, they were the best part of the story!  When Last We Spoke will take you back to a time when life didn’t seem like such a responsibility.  I enjoyed it, and I hope you do, too.

One lucky reader will win a copy of this book. As a bonus, the winner will also receive a DVD preview of the film that’s in the works for this book!

While you’re waiting for the giveaway to end, download your FREE copy of the book. Marci will be giving away a FREE Kindle version on Amazon from Feb. 20-24.
