Time of Useful Consciousness book review #giveaway

The difficulty of being a woman in a man’s world, coupled with being caught up in a romance that had all kinds of strings attached, made life terribly hard for Louisa Unger.  This might sound like a familiar story line, but throw in the time period (WWII) and it makes for a really unique read. I’ve reviewed WWII books in the past, but Time of Useful Consciousness stands out from the rest. If your Valentine loves to enjoy a book with a cup of tea, enter below!

The book has an interesting back-and-forth that kept me guessing.  It read more like a black and white movie plot.  Louisa’s memories had such a childlike innocence about them at the beginning. As the story continued to take a deeply intimate look at Louisa’s life, the whole picture became more clear.  Reading about her dysfunctional parents and wild brother, it was tough to imagine her going through such heartache.  The strong language in the book might have been appropriate for the situation, but still not something I enjoy reading.  There was also a lot of mature content. While it wasn’t completely graphic, there were lots of mentions of adult behavior.  Don’t hand this to a young reader!   Time of Useful Consciousness is an emotional read that makes me appreciate the blessed life I lead.
