Thrifty Thursday: eating out at home

Recently my daughter stayed overnight at my in-laws house (for the first time!)  When we arrived to pick her up, she told me that she had eaten pancakes and bacon for breakfast.  The kitchen showed no signs of breakfast though.  My mother-in-law told me her secret….she went to a local breakfast buffet and purchased breakfast for the entire household.  She got the typical breakfast foods (pancakes, sausage, bacon, etc.) for the 8 people who would be eating and get this—–she paid $10 for it all!!  I was stunned.  Since the buffet-to-go was priced by the pound, she paid for the cooked weight.  Around here a pound of bacon can cost about $6 and then you have to cook it, clean up, and have that bacon smell in your house for days…..plus when the pound cooks down it barely feeds 4.  Know what I mean?  I was super impressed and plan to do this in the future.   Making pancakes at home is definitely affordable but for the pricier things like meat, this would be an idea to consider.   Sometime we don’t have the energy to get the troops in line for a dinner out, but we could bring the dinner in.

What do you think?  Is eating out at home something you would try?

Check this out….
