The tree is down — Literally. My living room is mine again

Did you ever see that episode of Everybody Loves Raymond where they have a silent argument about the suitcase?  Basically the suitcase was left in the corner of the stairs for a long, long time and both Debra and Raymond refused to move it.  Well, we had an issue kind of like that last year. The tree is down, people!

My Christmas Tree is down -- savingsinseconds.com

I always take the Christmas tree down on December 26.  It’s not that I’m Scroogish or anything; I just know that it will stay up forever if it doesn’t get taken down when I have the time to do it.  So last year my ornaments and tree were packed away, waiting for my husband to carry them down the steps.  I had almost killed myself trying to bring them UP the steps after Thanksgiving; my husband promised to take them down for me.   I’m really persistent about nagging so in an effort to be a good wife, I decided to just let him take it down on his own time.  January came and went.  February and March flew by.  April, May, and June…..well, you’ve probably guessed.  That’s right.  The tree never made it down the steps.  I mentioned it once or twice and he didn’t get the hint.  I just unpacked it in early December and put it up.  It was actually kind of nice that everything was still right in the living room, waiting to be assembled.  It was also kind of horrifying that we left our Christmas decorations right in the middle of our living space for an entire year.

But you know what?  It must have bugged my husband, too.  This morning the first thing I did was take down the decorations.  I did leave the pretty wreath pictured above on the door, because the colors are nice for January too.  When hubby woke up, he took the tree down and packed it away.  He already put it in the closet for the next year.  Whew!   The tree is down — literally, downstairs.  My living room is mine again.  Finally!

When do you take down your Christmas decor?

  1. We only put up a small tree this year and we’ll take it down today. Makes me glad we don’t go all out for the holidays; it makes the clean up very easy.

You are so great, my tree stays up past the new year. Not because of tradition but because I just don’t have the time or energy to take it down. I wish I could be more like you. I may even try to take it down this weekend lol ~ wish me luck!

  3. Hahaha sometimes I wish I got around to taking the tree and decorations down the day after Christmas! My family has always left it up until after New Years, so I’ve always followed tradition. It’s the holiday season until the New Year. So it makes sense to me to leave everything up 🙂 Sometimes it can get annoying though. Get sick of looking at it. LOL!

  4. I’m always really eager to take mine down also. I don’t usually have the energy the day after christmas but it’s always down within a week. I just don’t like how much space it takes up.

  5. You don’t waste any time! I love having my tree up, it’s not coming down till January…lol

  6. I just took mine down today. I didn’t plan to but I just woke up and decided I was ready for them to come down! Feels good going into the new year without decorations everywhere!
