For me, nothing chases away the winter chill like a good book and a cup of hot tea.  I’m from the South, so my tea comes with a nice dose of sugar.  I usually add a splash of milk, too. In her book Ten Healthy Teas, herbalist Valerie Lull offers tips on tea remedies and uses.

Ten Healthy Teas is a quick read at only 39 pages.  Many of the recipes are super simple, calling only for a tea bag and hot water.  Some of the tea bases surprised me, though.  For example, I’d never heard of garlic tea before!

Though she does not claim to be a medical doctor, Lull understands the comforting benefits of a cup of tea and how tea can help the body.  In her book, she offers background about the medicinal value of different teas.  She explains the basics of medical research, and describes reasons to drink specific types of tea.  I appreciated her suggestions about flavor combinations and ways to get over the unpleasant taste of certain teas (green tea is not my favorite.)  Lull gets creative with spices, too.  I never thought of adding cayenne to tea!

Share Ten Healthy Teas with a friend!  It’s a short guide to those who would like to try tea but aren’t sure where to begin.
