Fall Break getaway — Biltmore Estate in Asheville, NC

Fall Getaway - Biltmore Estate Asheville, NC

This summer when my grandmother and cousin visited, we had a little time on our hands. We spent most of it watching the entire Downton Abbey series.  Of course, that warranted a trip to the Biltmore Estate!  It was the closest thing we have to the Abbey, after all.  [Read more…]

Battle at Bristol fans – stop by Blackbird Bakery in Bristol, TN

Heading to Bristol, TN this weekend for the Battle at Bristol?  Be sure to stop by the Blackbird Bakery downtown.  You won’t be disappointed!  It’s right off State Street, but the parking isn’t easy to find so take what you can get.  When you enter, you’ll see the beautifully restored building that houses the bakery.  You’ll probably have to stand in line, but it’s totally worth the wait.  Let me indulge you for a moment.

Amelia Bedelia #giveaway - enter at

A few days ago, my kids asked if we could go to Ryan’s soon. It’s one of their favorite restaurants; the rolls, mashed potatoes, and dessert bar rank among the top of their wishlists! We ended up going for breakfast this morning (Sunday), and it was delicious as always. We plan to go back for our favorite – Family Night – and see the Amelia Bedelia party! That’s right, the beloved children’s book character is celebrating at Ryan’s!  Created by American author Peggy Parish in the early 1960’s, Amelia Bedelia is known for her literal takes on figurative language.  This wonderful family promotion can be found at the Ovation Brands’ portfolio of restaurants, including Old Country Buffet, Ryan’s, Hometown Buffet, and Country Buffet from March 17th through May 12th. One lucky winner gets to celebrate the promotion as well as with this special prize pack, which includes an Amelia Bedelia sticker pack, bonnet pack, poster, brochure, and 4 paperback books: Amelia Bedelia’s First Apple Pie, Amelia Bedelia Makes a Friend, Amelia Bedelia, Amelia Bedelia Means Business. Ghosts and Haunts of Tennessee review

When you travel, what’s your favorite souvenir to buy? Whenever we visit a new city, I look for a book on haunted history for that area. It’s a good way to know the places where history and local legend meet. That’s why I was so excited to find this title at our local used bookstore a few weeks ago.
Ghosts and Haunts of Tennessee -
Aside from the supernatural stuff in these pages, it’s just fascinating to read the stories of the past. Each chapter is dedicated to a different landmark, such as East Tennessee State University or various hotels. I’m always intrigued by the ghost stories of old places, so it was fun to learn about these sites that are so close to home. If you’re interested in this type of book, I highly recommend Ghosts and Haunts of Tennessee.

What books are on your wish list? If you’re lucky, you might win a $10 Amazon gift code to help you get that book! The giveaway is open to INT readers ages 18+. Void where prohibited by law. Good luck!

Giveaway ended.

Get slow cooked baby back ribs and fried chicken at Ryan’s

There are a few things in life that brighten my hubby’s eyes. Spending a relaxing day with the family makes him smile. Other happy moments include spoiling the dog with a good belly rub….taking a drive to look at the autumn leaves….and a big plate of BBQ ribs. When I told him that Ryan’s is bringing back Slow Roasted Baby Back Ribs (through October 25), his eyes lit right up!  In fact, he wants to head there tonight for dinner (at our Ryan’s, the ribs are available after 3:30 PM).  Ryan’s is sending me meal vouchers to try the delicious dinners, and one lucky reader will also win 2 meal vouchers!  Head to the Ryan’s website to find a location near you.  You’ll be eating well!

Public Service Announcement for Northeast Tennessee: GoCart at Food City could change your life!

Food City shoppers - this trunk could change your life!

Upon first glance, this trunk might look like a disaster.  Backpacks, band instruments, and bags strewn about don’t exactly equal a life-changing experience.  There’s more than meets the eye here, though!  The beauty of this scene is that I came home with a trunk full of groceries that

a)  I didn’t shop for, and

b)  I didn’t have to load into my car.

You read that right.   These days, I have a professional grocery shopper.  The best news is that YOU CAN, TOO, if you live in Northeast Tennessee!!  How much would you pay to get 2 hours of your life back each week?  I did, and only paid $4.99.  Great deal, right?  [Read more…]
