Our family enjoyed a fun camping trip to Chattanooga, TN over fall break.  The last time I’d been there was over 20 years ago, so I was excited to return with my kids.  In the next few days, I’ll share some of our adventures with you.  First, let’s take a look at the Tennessee Aquarium!   This amazing attraction is right in the heart of downtown Chattanooga. It is housed in 2 main buildings, flanked by an IMAX theater just a few feet away.  Tickets are purchased in yet another building.  I tried to find a discount or online coupon to no avail.  [Read more…]

Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park Campground #giveaway $200

Last weekend we stayed at Davy Crockett Birthplace State Park campground in Limestone, Tennessee.  It’s located near Greeneville, TN.  There is a beautiful river just inside the campground where you can wander on a trail, do some fishing, or just enjoy the serenity from a bench. On the day of our arrival, we had a funny sight in store!  My kids loved watching the cows play in the water. [Read more…]

Magnolia Tree restaurant in Cobsy, TN near Gatlinburg

Just outside the gates of our Gatlinburg KOA campsite was a restaurant called Magnolia Tree.  We drove past it a couple of times before we had the chance to stop in. The signs announcing the ice cream and Amish foods drew me in!

Gatlinburg East KOA Campground in Cosby TN

For our first camping trip in Pigeon Forge, we chose Gatlinburg East KOA Campground in Cosby, TN.  There were so many options in the area that the selecting one was overwhelming!  We finally chose the KOA because it had excellent TripAdvisor reviews.  It was simple to make reservations online, and the Value Kard fee paid for itself ($30 cost, gives a 10% discount).   [Read more…]

Savings for a fun day at The Island in Pigeon Forge, TN #TheIslandPF

So, when we got discounted tickets for the 7D ride at The Island in Pigeon Forge, I had NO IDEA about the other rides that were just around the corner. It was our first time going there, but I just hadn’t researched it at all.  We didn’t have time to check out the rides, so we promised the kids we’d go back the next day when we had more time.  My son was especially interested in the ropes course!

We enjoyed a fun afternoon at The Island in Pigeon Forge during our recent Gatlinburg camping trip.  In fact, we enjoyed it so much we went back the next day!  We landed at The Island by happy accident, since I’d purchased Groupon package for the 7D Dark Ride Adventure.  We saw The Great Smoky Wheel and couldn’t wait to get there.   [Read more…]

Baileyton RV Park & Cabins near Greeneville TN

If you’re traveling on I-81 on the Northeast Tennessee side, and you need a place to stop, consider Baileyton RV & Cabins. We had the pleasure of staying in this campground for one week in July.  It was the first time we’d stayed at a campground without seeing it firsthand, so I was a little wary.  The TripAdvisor reviews were good and they had a high rank with Good Sam. I convinced my husband to give it a try!

Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud in Pigeon Forge #giveaway #HatfieldMcCoyDinnerShow

Disclosure: Thanks to Hatfield & McCoy Dinner Feud for providing us with tickets. We enjoyed it! Groupon referral links are used; opinions shared are mine.

Every time we drive through Pigeon Forge, my kids ask if we can go to the Hatfield and McCoy Dinner Feud. The building is so eye-catching, you can’t miss it!  We were grateful to receive deeply discounted tickets to attend the dinner show this weekend.  The show was scheduled to start at 5:00 pm; make sure you arrive at least 45 minutes early.  I advise going at least an hour early so that you have time to enjoy the atmosphere before heading in for the show! When I tell people I’m a teacher, they often say, “Oh, you’re so lucky to have the summers off.”  YES, I am!  Teaching is mentally and physically exhausting, and the summer months really do help me to unwind.  During the summer, I become a real person again. The working mom side of me doesn’t dominate.  I get to have fun with my own children, read books I craved all year, and go without makeup for days on end.  Now that it’s the end of summer and time to get back to school, the race is on! I have to do all the things!  We’d been planning to see the new Beauty and the Beast, but didn’t get a chance until last week.  We went to the $3 movie theater in Johnson City, TN.

The Gathering Place Cafe – Greeneville TN

We recently took our camper on our first camping trip!  We went to Davy Crockett Birthplace campground in Limestone, TN.  On the last night of our trip, we decided to go out for dinner.  It was a welcome respite from outdoor cooking!  We tried to get in to the Butcher’s Block, but it had an hour wait list.  After consulting TripAdvisor again, we headed for The Gathering Place Cafe.  I called ahead to see how busy they were, explaining that we could arrive by 7:30 (they close at 8 pm).  I  was told that outdoor seating would soon be available and my name was added to the list.   [Read more…]
