Sustainability Made Simple book + bag

Unless you’ve been hiding under a moss-covered rock, you have probably tried at least one way to “go green” in the past few years.  Most of us have reached an awareness about reusing items, recycling, and reducing our footprint. Disclosure: I received a Growing a Green Family pack, too. Opinions shared are mine.  In the book Sustainability Made Simple, readers can consider some really do-able action steps to raising an environmentally aware family. [Read more…]

How to soothe itchy skin during the winter months

Disclosure: I received product samples to try. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

My skin is generally easy going, but it complains during the winter months. As soon as it’s time to break out the long sleeved shirts, small red bumps develop along my wrists.  Sometimes the dry winter air, combined with frequent hand washing, wreaks havoc on my hands, where the skin becomes so dry that it cracks and bleeds.  Anywhere elastic touches my skin, it leaves red itchy spots.  In the past, I’ve had to resort to months of steroid treatments to soothe my itchy skin. Fortunately, natural remedies are working well for me this year! [Read more…]

Being a girl means shoes, makeup, and …. UTI pain? Here’s how to deal. #ad

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Uricalm®. All opinions are 100% mine.
Disclosure: This post is brought to you by Uricalm, who provided free product. Opinions shared are mine.

Most of the time, I love the girly side of life.  Womanhood allows me to obsess over shoes, wear pretty jewelry and makeup, and cry over a good book — all without shame.  When it comes to urinary tract wellness, though, being a girl is not always fun and games.  I have to be careful about using certain body wash formulas, unscented products, and taking off wet swimsuits right away.  Do guys struggle with that type of thing?  One thing is certain. Every woman needs to keep a UTI pain product, such as Uricalm® MAXin the medicine cabinet.  When that pinching moment hits in the middle of the night, it’s never a pleasant surprise!   If you don’t have this in stock at your house, click here to print a $3 couponundefined

Explore the Outdoors = prize package from National Geographic - enter to win at

National Geographic is a household name for most of us.  From the quality television programming to the iconic magazine, this familiar gold rectangle represents scientific expertise on a level for “real” people.  I love the way that National Geographic takes us to the secret lairs of lions, or the inner workings of a pond’s ecosystem, and somehow puts it on a level that mere humans can understand.  Even better, National Geographic Kids has a fabulous assortment of books and products that make learning fun for kids.  I’ve been using their publications for years, both in my classroom and in my home.  Stock your bookshelf with these fun titles that make you want to explore the outdoors!

How we prevent problems with allergies #ecologyworks

We recently moved to a new home that is located out along a tree-lined road. The cars driving by tend to blow dust into our yard, which shows on the wood floors. Since we’re heading into fall, the pets have been adding their own share of dust from their dander. Here’s what we do to make things a little easier around our acting-up allergies!

1. Use a steam mop.
Shark steam and mop -
Since this mop uses the power of steam from distilled water, no chemicals are necessary for a high-quality clean. It sanitizes up to 99.9% of the germs and leaves behind a beautiful shine. The microfiber cloth is great for collecting dust, and is machine washable.

2. We received Anti-Allergen pet shampoo to review and gave it a try. [Read more…]

3 items you’ve gotta try — keep your kids clean

Disclosure: I received some of these items to review. The post contains affiliate and referral links. Opinions shared are mine.

It can be hard to convince kids that personal hygiene is important.  After all, brushing teeth and washing armpits takes away from outside play time.  This month, I found a few items that made it easier to get my kids to a presentable state.  Would any of these make it easier to keep kids clean at your house? Get @BeyondCleansing with the new #Spongelle sponge animals. Super cute and fun, too!

  1. Sponge Animals by Spongelle

I’ve found that instructions need to be spelled out for shower time.  Unfortunately, they seem to think that soap is an option.   Many times I’ve had to squirt body wash on the child’s washcloth while they move around in the tub, trying to avoid the suds. [Read more…]
