Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween @Lionsgate #Boo2 #ad #rwm #giveaway ends 10/25 US

This is our first year of camping fun, so we have a lot to learn!  My friend Lori told me that the best place to go Trick or Treating is the campground at Roan Mountain.  She said the campground gates close at 4 pm because there are so many visitors on that night.  When I was invited to participate in the #Boo2 promotion, I thought of the campground again….this time, wondering how a haunted campground (like the one in A Madea Halloween) might change things! Disclosure: This is a sponsored post on behalf of Review Wire Media for Lionsgate. I received information to facilitate my review as well as a promotional item to thank me for my participation. [Read more…]

Easy Pumpkin Carving book #giveaway ends 10/25 US

We love finding the perfect pumpkins for our front porch, but I’m not so skilled at pumpkin carving. The kids are used to drawing on our pumpkins, or even adding stickers to them. I’ve been known to glue candy to our pumpkins, too….but again, we’re not known for having the most creatively carved gourds on the street. When Fox Chapel Publishing reached out and asked if I would review Easy Pumpkin Carving, it seemed like the perfect chance to learn something new!  Disclosure: I received the book free; post contains affiliate links. I’d like to be able to make special trips for Halloween decor to create the perfect Spooky-Land for the kids.   As it is, there’s barely enough time to get my hair cut; therefore, my home decor purchases are generally impulse buys made while I run other errands.  Here are some surprising places where I’ve found great holiday decorations at affordable prices.  [Read more…]

Haunted Halloween tour – Carver #giveaway

Once again, the Haunted Halloween tour has appeared! This time, we’re featuring The Carver, a book with a seemingly familiar story but loaded with twists.

October is the month of fears, and we’re going on tour with some of our favorite authors to talk about what their main characters are afraid of. What keeps them up at night? What nightmare has them waking in a cold sweat? Each day, we’ll feature a new main character and delve deep into their subconscious to see what they fear. And each day, you’ll have a chance to enter to win some awesome prizes! Read on to find out what our dear friend Peter Pan Pietro from Jacob Devlin’s The Carver worries about at night… [Read more…]

Alien Cupcakes #CelebrationSpookyTreats #giveaway at savingsinseconds.com

October is always a busy month at the Savings in Seconds house. The changing seasons means it’s time to switch out clothes….double laundry for a couple of weekends! We spend a few days cleaning out the raised beds and planting some fall crops, including several overwinter varieties. Moving all of the patio furniture inside takes some heavy lifting as well.  My daughter is old enough to be a BIG help.   I’m so grateful that she pitches in.  My son is learning how to take responsibility as well.  When the kids asked for some sweet treats at the store, we had to indulge. It would have been easy to buy some pre-made goodies. Why do that, though, when it’s so easy — and FUN! — to make Alien Cupcakes using Celebration by Frey™ candy? [Read more…]

Halloween is always a fun time at the Savings in Seconds house. My daughter never chooses a store-bought costume. She picks random themes (candy corn princess, for example) and we have to assemble the outfit from scratch. My son prefers well-known characters, such as superheroes and cartoon characters.  Thankfully, I can usually find the Halloween costume he wants on Amazon.

Spiderman made a visit! savingsinseconds.com

My kids have started the Great Costume Debate.  Should they be characters from Frozen or the Mario Bros?  Will they complement costumes or be completely different?  It’s fun to have input from my son who tends to choose superhero costumes.  Will you be tricking or treating this Halloween? HalloweenMart.com — great resource for parents and teachers

There are all kinds of uses for costumes during the year.  They aren’t just for Halloween!   I’ll bet you creative gals can come up with all sorts of uses for costumes in the spring and summer months.  I teach ancient history for 6th graders and love the historical adult costumes on HalloweenMart.Com.  There are lots of options for teachers, such as Napoleon, Vikings, and Abe Lincoln.  My students would love it if I walked in dressed as Cleopatra!  I think this would make any lesson so interesting and memorable.  Considering that the costume could be used every year as a classroom resource, possibly by multiple teachers, it would be a reasonable investment, too.
