Extraordinary DVD available January 16 #ExtraordinaryMovie #giveaway

Disclosure: I will receive a DVD for my video library. Opinions shared are mine.

My daughter is so much more level-headed than I was at her age.  She doesn’t want to date at all right now; instead, she wants to focus on becoming the best version of herself.  We’ve prayed for both of our children’s future spouses even before they were born, though, and I am hopeful that God will be faithful in providing loving Christian mates for my children.  My husband and I have tried to model a strong, faith-based Christian marriage for them, but it’s not always easy!   The upcoming movie Extraordinary describes the finish-the-race mentality of one remarkable marriage.

Whisper by Mark Batterson – book review @blogforbooks

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book. Opinions shared are mine.

When choosing my next book to review, I knew that my husband would really enjoy Whisper by Mark Batterson.  He has a stressful job that requires a lot of emotional strength.  Hearing God’s voice is imperative for a calm, peaceful mind and content heart, but even more so with daily challenges like his.  I also wanted to read Whisper for myself.  My children have often asked me, “How can I hear God?”  and my answers seem weak to my own ears.  So, I went off in search of that answer within the pages of this book.  I received a free copy; opinions shared are mine. Disclosure: I received this book for free as part of the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.

Well, this is a first for me.  When I received the book 365 Bible Answers for Curious Kids a few days ago, I took a look through some of the pages.  It was an adorable book with a cute cover, glossy pages, and easy to read text.  What surprised me was the content!   [Read more…]

She Reads Truth Bible #giveaway – 7 winners 12/10 US #SheReadsTruth #ReadYourBible

Disclosure: I was given this Bible to review for B&H Publishing by FrontGate Media. While I was given the Bible for free all thoughts and opinions are my own.

I’m LOVING the new trends in today’s Bible editions.  Publishers are catching on to the fun of fonts, textures on covers, and generally making a Bible look pretty.  We used to hide our Bibles in quilted covers and carry them around like a purse. No more!  These Bibles are meant to be attractive all on their own.  I was given a copy of the She Reads Truth Bible in poppy linen hardcover.  Isn’t it gorgeous?  [Read more…]

Last year, my daughter attended the Tennessee Christian Teen Convention in Gatlinburg, TN.  She absolutely loved the experience, saying it was a life-changing weekend.  One of the things she loved most about the convention was the amazing music! The worship songs stay with her even now.  I understand this, since I still catch myself singing favorite church camp worship songs.  In the Alpha / Omega CD, Kutless performs many wonderful, familiar sing-along worship songs that will surely be favorites for your family!   We’re excited to listen to this CD in the car during our daily commute. Indescribable by Louie Giglio #giveaway

Disclosure: I received this book to review. Post contains affiliate links; opinions shared are mine.

Lately my son is completely interested in shows like Bill Nye the Science Guy, Magic School Bus, and basically anything that has a science theme.  He told me that he’s like to be a scientist when he grows up, “but scientists don’t believe in God.”  Wait, WHAT?!

That’s when I knew that Indescribable: 100 Devotions for Kids About God and Science was going to come in handy. [Read more…]

Let me be clear. It’s really, really tough to be a teen these days.  Remember middle school and high school — the rough patches with friends, challenges with academics, and struggles to fit in?  Now add social media to the mix.  Keep in mind that students are typically working on content that was taught 1-2 years later when you were in school.  Add the pressure of the media and how teens think “normal” should look.  It’s a rough phase of life for everyone, but especially for this generation of kids! In 2012 when my daughter was a newborn, my husband and I joined our first small group through church.  It was held at my friend Marsha’s home and we studied the book A Purpose Driven Life by Rick Warren.  Our spiritual growth was almost tangible during that book study, but the biggest benefit was our deepened friendships.  I’m glad to see that Rick Warren’s new book, God’s Big Plans for Me storybook Bible, is based on that bestseller.  This will be a great way for me to share those uplifting messages with my kids.
