Fitting rooms are a thing of the past for me.  A solo trip to a clothing store happens about as often as spotting Big Foot.  Having enough time to try on multiple garments?  Ha ha.  Ordering online is convenient, but I tend to pick the same “safe” styles I’ve always chosen.  When I had the chance to try the Styled by Trendage iOS App, I realized it was a great opportunity to virtually try on clothes with no strings attached.

Getting started was a piece of cake.  I took a selfie while sitting in the car, waiting for my husband to talk to the salesman at an auto dealership.   The app gave specific directions about taking the selfie — use good lighting and face the camera at eye level.  Simple!

After the photo uploaded, I was given the chance to select a hairstyle.  This was fun!  I had trouble finding one I liked.  Finally, I just settled on one so I could play with the outfits.  I hope to see Styled add new hairstyles so I can choose one that’s more like … me.

While Styled gave me the chance to use a pre-selected form, I preferred using my own measurements.  I inputted my height and weight so that my online self would look as much like me as possible; that way, the clothes would be a more accurate fit.  Surprisingly, it was honestly a pretty accurate likeness!   Next, Styled gave me several outfits to “try on.”  It was fun to see different colors and patterns than I’d normally choose, like this lime green dress.

The little heart at the bottom of the screen allowed me to Save my favorite outfits.  There was so much variety in the stylings that it was hard to remember the ones I liked, so I was glad to have them stored on the app.

What I liked best was the chance to see some outfits I wouldn’t normally try on.  For example, I don’t think I’ve ever worn a halter top or anything that didn’t go fully to my shoulders.  That style seems like it’s only for skinny girls, you know?  I’m very self-conscious about my thick upper arms, and always feel like my torso is just too big to wear this type of top.  However, after seeing this dress on Styled, I realized that the other aspects of the garment (gathers at waist, bright color) help to draw the eye away from the less flattering features.

I’d like the ability to turn the model so I could see a side and back view, too.

There’s a fun reward system built into Styled.  Many users would appreciate the discount promo codes offered right on the app.

All in all, the Styled app was fun to use.  I liked the convenience of seeing an outfit without even having to unzip my jeans.  It’s something I would play with for fun while in the car, or when looking for a new dress for a special occasion.

How would the Styled app save you time and money?

  1. I usually buy my clothes at thrift stores so this wouldn’t help me.

This sounds like a great way to shop. I don’t like going to the store and trying on a bunch of outfits. Thank you so much for sharing this. God Bless
