Disclosure: Monroe and Main sent me outfits for this post. Opinions shared are mine.
Whatever Punxsutawney Phil might have to say, I’m ready for spring weather. Aren’t you? While you check out this year’s spring fashions, keep Monroe and Main in mind. There are so many beautiful styles for women of all shapes and sizes! In selecting items for this spring’s fashion post, I wanted to try something in the Marsala shade. As you know, it’s the color of the year. It’s a great color for everyone — men and women — and can be an exciting part of your spring wardrobe.
My new favorite marsala item is the gorgeous Carren Surplice Dress. This A-line design makes it great for all body types. Normally surplice fabric isn’t flattering on my curves, but the Carren Surplice Dress is very forgiving. This is a dress I’ll wear all year round! This is a dream for the plus-size women, am I right? I paired it with the lovely Whispering Pine Sweater in the photo above; the extra layer will keep me comfortable on those breezy spring mornings. I adjusted the mock wrap bodice to keep the top modest, pulling it snugly up. I didn’t have to pin it to make it stay, which is a big timesaver on a busy morning. The choker-like beaded necklace draws the eyes upward. Simple floral earrings complete the professional look. You might think that marsala is too dark for spring, but it’s easy to remedy this by keeping your shoes light and fresh. I wore this with my rose gold Tieks for a simple look.
My pretty silver watch and bracelet set from Monroe and Main provide a nice contrast for the darker shades. Since the dress and sweater are both lightweight, this outfit is perfect for spring. You’re never too old to twirl!!
Want to show a little skin for a date night? Adjust the bodice down! By adding a pair of dangling earrings and a drop necklace, the eyes are drawn downward to my assets. I wore the Lisa Thong sandals with this dress in order to keep the ensemble consistent with the spring theme. My hubby wouldn’t be able to take his eyes off me in this dress!
Inspired by Downton Abbey’s romantic themes, I decided to add the Lace Top over the dress, making it look more like a skirt but without the need to wear a camisole underneath. This is perfect for those days when you need to cover up just a bit (Easter morning church, perhaps) but still want something quick and easy. I wore this with my great grandmother’s cameo necklace and a strand of pink pearls wrapped twice around my wrist. This is such a casual look but made me feel so feminine. It’s going to be a stunning spring with this outfit!
Another favorite from the Monroe and Main Flattering Styles collection is the Falling For Me top. This beautiful piece is blousy without being bulky. It’s so feminine and flirty! There’s always that sad moment when I try on my spring pants and realize that my middle expanded a bit too much during the winter. Falling For Me will be perfect for hiding that muffin top until I’m able to trim down. I’ve heard so many women say that they can’t wear sleeveless. At first I was very self-conscious about my arms, but then I realized that I was limiting myself. Why miss out on all these cute sleeveless spring items? Besides, I’m not the one who has to look at my arms! (ha ha) So go for it! Also, don’t be afraid to wear black in spring. It’s all about the contrast! By pairing the dark top with crisp white pants, and accessorizing with light and bright jewelry, the black creates a stunning backdrop for spring. For more ideas to help you incorporate your wardrobe’s black items, check out the Monroe and Main blog!
What items do you love from Monroe and Main’s spring choices?
Thanks to Monroe and Main for sending me these beautiful clothes!
I learned how to hem pants from one of their blog posts! Super helpful.
That’s great Allison! You never know when you’ll need to use a skill like that.
I learned you don’t have to buy a whole new wardrobe just to have the latest color craze. Choose a print that has the color or even wearing sunglasses or earrings is enough.
Definitely, Jeanine! Buy something that makes you feel fabulous, and integrate it into your current wardrobe.
I like their secret strategies. Nice way to tell if you are wearing the right size bra.
Yep, I liked the secret strategies post, too. Sometimes you need a girlfriend to tell you those little secrets!
i learned that Monroe and Main has a great selection of plus size clothes
Yes, it does. Love stores that offer amazing items for curvy women!
I learned that “Marsala is a compelling and cordial tone that nurtures, exuding confidence and stability while feeding the body, mind and soul,” Pantone experts said during the reveal.
I totally agree with the confidence thing. The shade marsala makes me feel bold and sexy!
I learned that Pantone Color Institute has chosen a color of the year every year since 1990, and it just made its choice for 2015: Marsala. Marsala is a deep red color.
I Love wearing necklaces/jewelry & I found this tip: This spring, wear an eye-catching short statement necklace with a scoop-neck blouse or a crew-neck tee. Colorful Bohemian patterns and beaded jewelry are also on-trend, seen in pieces like large necklaces, bangle bracelets and dangling earrings in an pretty array of primary colors. Wear bright jewelry with lightweight flowing fabrics for a cohesive look.
That little accent can really make an outfit pop!
I like the idea of using a marsala colored scarf with a black coat — so dramatic! Great color accent!

It’s so great that one inexpensive piece can be so versatile!
I learned that this spring’s fashion trends are all about fun patterns and colors that women can mix and match to spice up their outfits in exciting ways.
It’s fun to change up a look with a new pattern or color.

The Pantone Color Institute is the one who declares the color of the year. I don’t know who gave them that authority, ha!! But it definitely seems to carry some weight, at least in the fashion world.
