One of the things I love best about summer is the freedom to wear lightweight fabrics.  Breezy cottons and flowy rayon skirts are the cherry atop the summer sundae.  Sometimes, I even forgo the slip under a thin dress (shocker!) because I just can’t bear the extra layer.  To me, it’s excessive to purchase separate dresses for weekend wear, pool cover ups, and the like.  Why not buy one dress that does it all?

Monroe and Main dress

The Versi Dress is a favorite from Monroe and Main. I received it back in February and have been wearing it all summer long!  The attached scarf makes it so versatile; look how fun it is!  Clockwise from top left, you can see the different ways the dress can be styled. I often wear it as a swimsuit coverup because it’s so light and easy to pull on.  It looks great with flats and flip flops, so if we need to run an errand after a swim, it’s simple to slip on shoes and go. I don’t even bother tying the scarf because I love the look of the chiffon panel as a trim.  If we’re heading to dinner, I usually wear wedge sandals to dress it up a bit. The scarf can be tied as a halter top, which gives the dress a totally different look.  No jewelry needed with this style!  Finally, you can also tie the scarf around the waistline.  Priced at less than $30, this dress deserves a place in your summer wardrobe.

For the guys, the looks might be a little more simple.  It’s tough to change things up when shorts and pants are your only option for summer.  Guys might be inclined to wear their year-long wardrobe, but those heavy fabrics just aren’t forgiving when the thermometer rises.  Thanks to Bonobos’ Summer Weight Chinos, guys won’t have to stifle in the heat. Their Summer Weight Chinos are made of a lightweight cotton twill which will keep the guys cool and comfortable in hot temps. Whether they’re kickin’ it at a casual outdoor cocktail party or manning the grill at a Fourth of July barbecue, these lightweight chinos are sure to be your guy’s go-to-pants for summer. There are so many color options — and even patterns — that you might need several pairs!

I love the look of tying it around the waist. (And I can’t remember the last time I wore a slip, lol. It’s just too hot!)

I’m with you….who can afford or have room for a dress to wear out, a comfy dress, and a cover-up. Love how this looks and that it is so versatile. The scarf changes it up and adds that “pop” of color. Looks good and great to see your little dog barking at you. That is like ours when we go into the pool.

  3. The summer weight chinos would look good both dressed up and dressed down.

  4. That looks like such a cute dress. I can’t stand to wear slips when it’s hot and sticky out. I stained my pool cover up last year and have been in need of a new one! This would work perfect!

  5. So cute how you can wear it different ways! I am trying to wear more dresses this summer too.

Whether going to the lake, public pool, or a friend’s pool, it’s nice to have a cover up that looks good, too. We often spend hours on the lake, then, go out for a quick bite before heading home. While lots of people go to this restaurant at the lake, you still want to look decent. This dress would be great for that.

  8. One dress that does it all sound great! We’ve been going to our pool a lot this summer – it’s been hot!

  9. I have a question- does the scarf part come off? And- can it go up around your shoulders?

  10. I love that dress – so many different styles in one!! 🙂

  11. This is a very fun post! The fabric looks very comfortable and breathable. I really like the versatility of your scarf.

  12. The dress styles that you featured are above typical of what I see in general. But this year’s dress scene has offered more choices in general, and I am impresses at these fashion lines.
