I hope you’re enjoying this January day, readers. We recently had the chance to review Down Squash Blossom Road sent to us from the author, Janet Chester Bly.
I didn’t read the first book in the Reba Cahill series, but it was easy enough to catch up. The little hints dropped in the first few chapters help the reader become acquainted with the characters and backstory. It’s impossible not to adore this quirky family!
Aside from the obvious mystery factor, I enjoyed the dynamic between family members, small town gossip, and the romantic tension in this story. There is some mention of prayer and faith, and I appreciated that it was a clean read. I’m not really familiar with life in the western states, so it was entertaining to think about how a real “cowgirl” might live.
Reba sure was a busy woman! At times, it seemed a little difficult to keep up with all of the goings-on because the story kept changing. This added to the pace of the story, though, and kept it from being too stale. Overall, it was a good read.

Publishing 120 books is impressive.
Its not a book I’d probably just randomly pick up and its not my usual genre – which makes it perfect. Sometimes its nice to stretch your boundaries.
I visited Janet’s page and learned that Janet Chester Bly is the widow of Christy Award winning western author Stephen Bly.
