I’m officially a soccer mom … and basketball mom … and band mom…

Busy, busy, busy!  If things weren’t already wild and crazy, they sure are now.  This morning was a whirlwind of firsts, from the first instrument my daughter gets to play (clarinet) to the first day of soccer.  All of that was followed by a school practice and a birthday party. When we finally collapsed in our recliners, my husband and I joked about the fact that I’m officially a soccer mom.  We kept joking about the old David Letterman sound byte — Soccer Moms….Soccer MAMAS!  My kids also start ball this summer (t-ball and softball) so there will be more running around.  One of the things that completely baffled me was how much gear we’d need for spring sports.  I’m new to the childhood sports world, and it’s time to take notes.  Today I was grateful for the Paradox backpack we had sitting in the van.  It will get a lot of use this spring!

Backpack from Sports Unlimited - savingsinseconds.com

The DeMarini VooDoo Paradox backpack from Sports Unlimited  is designed to hold a glove, helmet, ball, and other relatively small gear that you need for sports.  It comes in several different colors that boys and girls alike will adore.  On the left and right sides of the pack, you’ll find two zipper-pull neoprene sleeves that are perfect for stashing baseball/softball bats.  I often see students carrying bulky backpacks with their baseball bats sticking out precariously; the Paradox is the solution to that problem.

The main compartment is generously sized — it even held my son’s basketball with room to spare.  When empty, though, it’s fairly compact and lies flat despite the front pockets.  There’s a vented shoe compartment as well.  You’ll be thankful that the backpack won’t smell like feet!

The textured pads on the back of the pack, paired with the textured straps, make it comfortable to carry the load.  The fence hook makes it simple to hang the pack to keep it off the ground, which comes in handy in wet scenarios.  I noticed that the straps and other attachments were secured with extra reinforcements, such as double-stitching or covered by an added strap.  These details make it likely to last longer.  I would caution you to be careful with the zippers.  I pulled the tag off, rather than cutting it with scissors, and it broke the zipper pull.  It’s not a problem since there are two zipper pulls on the top compartment, but it made me realize that the zippers might be more fragile. Aside from that, I found the Paradox backpack to be sturdy and generously sized.  It’s great for hauling around all the sports equipment we’ll need this spring. You want your children involved and active, then, you realize that means you are involved and active times the number of kids you have. My grandkids are that way and it seems that they often have to be at different places at the same time. Lots of running around but the memories, fun, and bonding for all are great.
