VTech SmartWatch review - savingsinseconds.com

In line with our tradition of giving our kids something to wear for Christmas, I decided to go against our pattern of giving clothes. Instead, my son will be receiving a watch! The new VTech Kidizoom Smartwatch DX has many features of a phone/tablet, too. The watch comes in several colors including hot pink, blue, and green. Patterns are also available. As a teacher, I appreciate the opportunity to prepare my son for technology. The watch gives him a chance to be in charge of his own learning with its calendar feature and calculator. When he gets into intermediate grades in school, he’ll be able to use technology and apps to support his learning. The Kidizoom Smartwatch provides this experience at an early age. When working on homework or writing letters, he often asks me about the date. He’ll be able to look up the date on his watch calendar, just like his dad does! The alarm will also build independence, since we can set it to wake him up on school days. The watch isn’t just for learning; motion-activated games become entertainment while building his math skills.
Several years ago my daughter enjoyed playing with her first Kidizoom camera on Christmas. Now, her brother can play with a camera right on his wrist. That’s right – the Kidizoom Smartwatch has a camera built right into it. The camera has photo effect options, as well as a video camera. This will keep him entertained during our long waits at swim meets. The voice recorder (complete with voice-changing features) will be pure pleasure on Christmas morning. I can just imagine the funny antics that will keep him busy!
To prepare the watch up for Christmas morning, I took it out of the box and plugged it into the charger. It took about an hour to fully charge; the clock was easy to program for the proper time. At that point, we were ready for play! It comes with a clear box, complete with carrying handle, so it even travels well. I love this watch for little people, and my son definitely will enjoy using it!

Super fun!! Omgosh I bet she’ll be so super excited!! Smart mama to precharge it for her and get through the initial set up 😉

  2. My kids have the older version of this and love it. Super smart to take it out and charge before they open it.

So many positives about this watch. I love it when things are fun and educational. Even better when it makes kids feel good and self-assured doing them. I know my son would like the idea of opening it and easily getting it ready for his children. He doesn’t like being up late Christmas Eve night trying to piece together or set up the toys for the kids.

    • Lisa, my son absolutely LOVES the watch. We got another one — this one is blue — and he plays with it. Says it was his favorite gift of Christmas (even more than the Wii U).
