I know, I know.  It’s a bit early to be thinking about the new school year.  It’s just that I’m trying to clean out my daughter’s closet today (while she’s away at camp) and I’m procrastinating, so this topic came to mind.  When she was a baby, I used to stock up on the next season’s clothes when shopping at consignment sales or yard sales.  It was easy to wash them up, toss them in a storage bin, and have an entire wardrobe ready to pull out in early summer.  Then one year that habit came back to bite me when she skipped an entire size, having gone through an unpredictable growth spurt.  Now that my daughter is 10 years old and wearing larger shoes than mine, I am hesitant to buy a lot of clothes for school on the off-chance that they might fit her by then.   raglan tee from Adidas - #ad savingsinseconds.com

It’s hard to pass up great deals though!   The adidas Summer Sale has some items marked at 50% that I know my girl would love.  This sparkly raglan tee, for example, is $10 and would be great for everyday wear.  She could certainly use some new sneakers and the no-show socks she likes are a great price at $6 for two pairs.

When we shop at yard sales, it’s hit or miss.  Sometimes I can find a teen with tons of cute Aero shirts, but then we have weekends where we don’t find anything at all.  I’m super picky about the used clothes we buy and don’t like to get anything that shows wash wear.  If we had a chance to shop in-store more often, I’m sure we could get some excellent deals, but I rarely go out shopping anymore.  So there we have it.  My big dilemma is, should I shop ahead or just wait?

For now, I think the answer is –> go clean that room.

  1. Yes, I try to because I always know I will find the best deals.

  2. I try to shop ahead. My son loves Adidas. I will go check out this sale.

  3. Whenever I see a sale I cannot pass up, I try and grab it. I would rather be prepared than to be buying at the last minute.

  4. Back to school clothes for teenagers are a nightmare to find. They are so expensive! I need to keep my eye out at all times to find things for them to wear!

  5. I agree, shopping ahead makes sense if you have the extra $ at the time. I buy whenever I find sales, like I often start christmas shopping in july when target does a big toy clearance each year.

I do shop ahead. It may not always work, but it can really help save you in the end. I shop the end of season clearance fleece at Old Navy and get my grandkids a size up for often 75% off. I have grandkids in Florida and often shop year round for summer weather clothes for them on sale. While it sometimes is a guess on sizes or their likes, it normally pays off and saves me money. Another great thing with this is shopping the after holiday sales – Fourth of July, Halloween, Christmas – clothes and stocking stuffer sales.
