Mary’s Heirloom Seeds is our sponsor for the Savory Summer Giveaway.   I’m so happy to share her website with you.   Marys’ Heirloom Seeds are high-quality, non GMO seeds.  This company upholds the Safe Seed Pledge, which is very important to me.   We tried the sprout kit to make our summer salads just a bit above the  norm.  I don’t know why I waited so long to grow my own sprouts!  Mary’s Sprout Kit is a great way to grow your own fresh sprouts.   It is super easy to use, and trust me— I try to only do “super easy”.   Recently I tried growing sprouts in hemp bags with very little success.  The jar worked much better for me. The instructions were simple to follow.  This experiment was also exciting because the kids could observe the change in the seeds/sprouts as they grew. Try tossing a few crunchy-sweet sprouts into your salad. I love eating sprouts on cold sandwiches as an alternative to lettuce.

I started with the mung bean seeds. While I soaked the seeds overnight to wake them up, I ran the jar through the dishwasher.  In the morning, I rinsed and drained the seeds one more time.  The jar lid has a handy little screen that makes it possible to get most of the water out during the rinsing process.

We left them on the counter. When I got home from work I repeated the rinse/drain process. The whole growing process took 3 days. On the third day I hulled the sprouts by gently rubbing them between my palms until the seed casings fell off. I patted the sprouts dry in a dishcloth then stored them in a small container in the fridge.

It is so easy that I could keep an ongoing supply all summer long!   I used 1/3 cup of seeds which provided me with enough sprouts for the entire week.    Mary’s offers a large selection of sprouting seeds at really reasonable prices.    I want to try the alfalfa and broccoli seeds next.  One really great thing about Mary’s Heirloom Seeds is ALL orders placed Monday-Friday process and ship within 24 hours (except for holidays).  Since I’m like a kid waiting for a Christmas present anytime I order something, it makes me so happy to know that my orders are important to Mary’s Heirloom Seeds and they’ll ship it right away!  Which kind of seeds would you like to try?

One lucky Savings in Seconds reader will win Mary’s Sprout Kit including a seed sampler!  Enter using the Rafflecopter form below. The giveaway is open to US readers ages 18+ (void where prohibited by law.)  Good luck!
