New releases are exciting! Do you have a TBR list that you update with the upcoming new releases? Anxious readers were delighted when Liz Tolsma’s new title Remember the Lilies was released on February 3, 2015. I loved Tolsma’s previous books about the WWII era. I definitely looked forward to reading Remember the Lilies!

The glossary of foreign words at the beginning of the book proved helpful as I devoured these pages. My stomach was sick as I visited, although semidetached, the horrors of a war prison camp and the fury of battle. There is a background in the story that I somehow missed, not knowing much about WWII history. It was difficult to read about betrayal and lifelong friendships that were hindered by distance, fear, and pain. Remember the Lilies is an amazing story of courage!

The message of the power of prayer is strong in this book. Irene’s wise aunt Anita is mindful of God’s presence in all situations, and it comes across in such a beautiful way. Although Irene was evidently raised in a Christian home, she has a more modern view of the world. When push comes to shove, however, Irene realizes how right Anita truly was.

  1. I chose the Nightingale because it reminds me of three very important people I personally knew. All were in Nazi camps, the numbers proving their horror. My father was on Anzio Beach, his best friend was killed there. Long stories, sad stories, but they mean so much to me. I would love to read this book as well. Thank you for offering this!

    • Wow, Dee. I am so sorry for your father’s traumatic experience. It sounds like this book would really mean a lot to you!
