Pam Hillman’s The Promise of Breeze Hill (A Natchez Trace Novel) was an option to review from Tyndale.  I’d read her Western novel Claiming Mariah so I took a chance on this one.  It was the perfect read for a cool fall day.

We love to travel to the deep South and visit old plantations, so this story immediately drew me in.  Based in Mississippi, The Promise of Breeze Hill highlights the nuances of society in the late 1790’s.   Hard work defined life on a plantation, and a woman rarely fit into the business model for success.  The main character Isabella wasn’t a stranger to the demands of plantation ownership, and she wasn’t above doing what she expected of her employees.  Some wealthy ladies would rather die than carry a tray for tea, but Isabella took such things in stride.  I’m glad I got a chance to read Promise of Breeze Hill, and hope to read more by Pam Hillman.

Though this book comes from a publishing house known for its Christian fiction titles, The Promise of Breeze Hill doesn’t come across as an faith-based story.  It is more of a clean historical romance, which makes it good for a wider audience.  It’s a good story for those who enjoy society dramas like Downton Abbey and Upstairs, Downstairs. Consider this when you have a few hours to spend on the breezy plantation grounds!

Thanks to Tyndale House for sending me this book for review.
