On My Bookshelf: The Promise Box

Tricia Goyer is one of my favorite Christian authors. Her romances are very clean, always have some element of mystery, and the faith thread is strong but subtle. The Promise Box is another homerun. I’m so glad I got to be part of this book tour.

I read The Memory Jar, which has some of the same characters in it. The Promise Box works as a stand-alone novel, so if you haven’t read The Memory Jar you’ll still be fine. I tend to enjoy books like that, which aren’t exactly series novels but have familiar characters. That’s the way these are.

In The Promise Box, Goyer masterfully blends faith with reason. If you are a fan of the popular shows about the Amish lifestyle, this book will be right up your alley. The Promise Box is a mix of two worlds. I could relate to the idea of leaving my home and making a life for myself. while i wasn’t raised in an Amish community, the home I grew up in was quite different from the outside world at that time. My mom was from another country so the foods we ate, stories we told, and values we held dear were sometimes unusual to my friends. Going home is both comforting and foreign, and Lydia experiences that in the story. I really enjoyed the way that God works everything out in the book. I don’t want to give away what happens, so just trust me that it is a really good read!

I received a copy of The Promise Box to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.
