I received this book to review. The opinions shared here are 100% mine.

Can you hear my heart pounding? I just finished Stress Test by Richard L. Mabry M.D. and WHOA it took me by surprise!   Imagine Dr. McDreamy in a Bourne Identity movie……yep, that pretty much sums it up.  Picking up this book was probably the last thing I did today. I honestly can’t think of one other productive thing I did other than finish it.  When was the last time you decided to read in lieu of sleeping?!

Stress Test has the perfect blend of suspense, mystery, and romance while still maintaining a Christian presence.  It was so refreshing to read an exciting book that didn’t have a lot of racy innuendos and foul language.  Nothing but adrenaline flowed through those pages.   The linking of the characters was so surprising.  I loved the way that the author weaved stories together.  Knowing that God is in control and claiming it are two different things.  The main character, Matt, goes through a trial by fire when he’s accused of murder and other charges.  Although he’s a doctor, he isn’t completely flush with money, so he struggles to remain financially solvent while trying to hold onto his sanity at the same time.  Sometimes it’s easy to go with the stereotype that surgeons must be incredibly wealthy.  Of all the prejudice that has been smoothed over in the world, I think the bias against those who seem to be rich is one of the hardest to overcome.  Each time Matt was questioned about his finances (aren’t you a doctor?  Don’t you make a lot of money?) I had to stifle the urge to feel protective over him.  It was also refreshing to see him leaning on a strong, confident woman (his lawyer Sandra) throughout his ordeal.  Again, social stigmas surround lawyers, yet Sandra deflects those with an easy toss of her red hair.  I thought I knew what was going on, and I did figure out some of it, but the ending totally caught me off guard.  I loved that this book wasn’t too predictable. Stress Test is a book that I’ll pass on to my friends.   I look forward to reading more by this author!

I participated in the book tour for Stress Test.  My opinions are 100% mine; I was given a copy of this book to review and was under no obligation to post a positive review.

  1. […] You might remember my reviews of books by Dr. Richard Mabry in the past. This time, I want to share his newest title with you — Fatal Trauma is another medical suspense novel that flies right in your face! From page 1, Mabry takes the highest level of action with his words. In this book, Dr. Mark Baker finds himself in one bad situation after another. I wondered if Dr. Mabry has a thing for redheads (there’s another one in this book). […]
