On My Bookshelf: Rosemary Cottage by Colleen Coble

When I read Colleen Coble’s novel Tidewater Inn last year, I couldn’t put it down until it was finished. Sitting on the couch until 2 AM, the pages kept turning until the last page was savored. This time I was smarter and started in the late afternoon so I was able to finish just before midnight. Another marathon Coble read successfully completed! Rosemary Cottage proved to be just as entertaining and thrilling as Tidewater Inn.  I received this book as part of the book tour for Litfuse Publicity.  It was nice to become reacquainted with the characters of Tidewater Inn while meeting new characters in Rosemary Cottage.   I remembered the beautiful architectural detail from the first novel, so it was interesting to hear about the different homes found on Hope Beach.  This time the story leads us to a Coast Guard rescuer named Curtis who became the custodial guardian of his niece, Raine, when Raine’s mother was killed in a surfing accident.   We also meet Amy, a midwife who has a lot of pressure from her family to become their idea of a success story.  In the sidelines, there was also a thread of political drama that never completely got resolved for me.  I felt like the end of the story came rather abruptly and there were too many loose ends.  I had lots of questions about Amy’s father and his knowledge of the situation.  Also, I couldn’t figure out how some of the extraneous characters were supposed to fit into the plot.  Perhaps I missed a key element in the story somewhere.   The romantic tension in the story was stretched a bit thin at times.  The characters seemed to fight against their feelings more than necessary (the lady doth protest too much, methinks).  Amy’s knowledge of herbs and natural healing was fascinating.  My garden is currently set up for food purposes, but I’d love to expand an herb garden used for healing the way that she does.  Overall, Rosemary Cottage was an enjoyable summer read.  I need to catch up on some sleep before reading the next Colleen Coble novel because I know I won’t be able to put it down!
