Attending a small, private Christian liberal arts college really changed the way I viewed romance. In high school, I had friends who explored the adult world of dating. Although I was very conservative in my views toward marriage, there wasn’t a true goal in mind when I dated. I wasn’t afraid to tell a boy that I was saving myself for marriage, but I also wasn’t dating with the intention of marrying those boys. During my college years, it was a pleasure to meet God-honoring men who believed in the sanctity of marriage, commitment, and a Christian relationship. I married one of them! We just celebrated our 17th anniversary. While it hasn’t always been peaches and cream, it’s been such a blessing to know that my husband is committed to treating me as his bride forever. The hard work is totally worth it. When I heard about the Old Fashioned movement, it reminded me of those boys from college. We’re talking about the kind of boys who date with a purpose – to find a woman to whom they can be committed forever. In the movie, a former frat boy named Clay decides to take dating seriously. I laughed, cried, was changed after viewing this movie. It was a cathartic experience that made me feel so connected with my dear husband. Next, I hope to see something on this line for Father’s Day!
If you have a teenager, this would be an excellent movie to view as a family. It really brings the idea of courtship home. It’s a great way to discuss the “rules” of dating, and a way to set forth your expectations for your child’s behavior in a relationship. If you’ve had a bad relationship or perhaps even a divorce, this might help to soothe that emotional wound. Old Fashioned is also great for churches and small groups. I’d love to see a couples retreat focused on this idea! My only complaint? I wish that it wasn’t called Old Fashioned. In my mind, that term has a negative meaning. Although the ideas in this movie are quite different from our society, it’s a refreshing thought to realize that some people still value the idea of a godly marriage.

I agree with you on the name not grabbing you and almost having a negative connotation. While I like the plain cover and words, I’m not sure it will appeal to most teenagers which is too bad because it sounds like a movie teenagers and adults would benefit from.
I had seen several things about this movie online, but I had no idea what it was about. It sounds like a good movie. I think that at some point, everyone decides to start dating with the idea of finding someone they want to marry, but they might not have a clue what they are looking for.
