Dino Dan is playing at our house. savingsinseconds.com

I have a four year old boy living in my house.  Dinosaurs have become a regular part of our family conversations.  Granted, we went through this with my daughter, too, when she was younger.   It’s kind of funny because I would expect kids to be afraid of dinos, what with all the teeth and roaring and hugeness.  Apparently not, because my kids can’t get enough of the Dino Dan video we received this month from NCircle.  Trek’s Adventures are really engaging for children because they involve a lot of imagination, creativity, and exploration.  Those are the extra senses that kids need to exercise when they’re little, right?  The Dino Dan DVD is available at Walmart stores and online. You have a chance to win a copy in this giveaway, just head down to the bottom of this post for the entry form!

The acting in the video is quite cheesy but it’s so perfect for children.  We don’t get Dino Dan on any of our cable channels so this was the first time they’ve been able to watch this show.  They especially like the science aspect of the episodes.  The teacher side of me appreciates the educational value of this DVD.  Children can benefit from the inquiry and investigations modeled in the Dino Dan series.  I look forward to sharing more of this show with my kids!

Pistachio Chewy Bites are the treat of the month at savingsinseconds.com

The snack we’ve been enjoying this month is a delicious treat from SporkFoods.  The new Pistachio Chewy Bites  are heart-healthy individually packaged bars that provide a great source of vegan protein. If you’re following a gluten and dairy free diet, definitely consider these for the crunchy snack you’re looking for.  The cranberries provide a tart sweetness and beautiful color, while the pistachios have that distinctive nutty flavor that can’t be found anywhere else.  I’m excited that these are GMO-free since that’s something our family is concerned about.  The chewy bites can be chopped up to add a pretty layer in a parfait. My daughter likes to add these to her fruit-and-veggie smoothies; you’d be surprised how much flavor one of these bites can pack!  The agave nectar in the bars gives the bites that extra touch of sweetness, too.  Serve these up to your Valentine this year!

When my kids are eating chewy bites and watching Dino Dan, I enjoy reading a great book like What Nora Knew.  This is a laugh-out-loud funny book that makes me long for my girlfriends.  What Nora Knew reminds me a bit of Sex and the City, with the trips to the Hamptons and the random musings of the 30-something single girl.  There were some truly hilarious parts in this book, like the part about the undies that help Molly to properly practice her kegels.  The deeper message in the story is that Molly’s heart longs to know and be known by a soul mate.  Her quest to write an Ephronesque article about true love reveals the stagnant relationship she finds herself in.  Molly is sarcastic, cynical, and totally hilarious.  She’s the kind of girl that I’d be friends with, and I liked her from page one.
