What do Steve, ocelots, and blocks have to do with Jesus?  Let’s find out!

Let’s just be honest – for most kids, the Bible is not a particularly tempting read.  For one thing, it’s so loooooong.  Then there are dozens of tongue twisting names, and places that kids have only heard about through school or VBS.  Finally, it’s in tiny print with old-fashioned looking pictures.  I have seen some Bible versions that have a child-friendly appeal, but the Minecrafters Bible is at the top of my kids’ lists!

Bible for Minecraft fans

There are few things that my children enjoy doing together, but Minecraft is definitely one of them.  They love to build worlds, creating buildings and furnishing their homes.  They domesticate animals, dig tunnels to the center of the world, and basically become absorbed in this pixelated imagination.  I’ve used Minecraft in my classroom, having my students build castles and communities.  Never, though, did I consider using Minecraft to help make scripture more interesting for my personal kids.   The Minecrafters Bible takes this natural creativity and directs it, correlating the art with the story.   Sidebars and bonus pages challenge kids to replicate a scene, or reflect on the story through Minecraft.

Some of the scenes can be built with minifigures and physical Minecraft items, but most of them are geared for online gaming.  What a great way to help your child be a witness to a friend!  I love the idea behind this Bible version, and know that my kids will enjoy playing while learning about the Bible.  So Steve, ocelots, and blocks can be part of the nativity scene, or perhaps part of the feeding of the 5,000.  Do you know a special child who would enjoy having a copy of the Minecrafters Bible?  disclosure
