A Love Made New by Kathleen Fuller - book review

I wanted to love this book. Really, I did.

For those who enjoy Amish romance novels, A Love Made New is a great choice. There was enough tension between the potential love interests to keep the story going.  It was easy to like the characters, too, because they each had something special to make a unique mark in the story.

Some elements of the story were hard to follow.  This is the 3rd title in the Amish of Birch Creek series. If you haven’t read the others, feel prepared to enter a conversation that’s been running for a while.  The background seeps out of each page, but it’s like learning all the names of a classroom of kids.  One character at a time, please!

Speaking of characters….there are A LOT of them.  At one point, I had to read the same page three times to make sure I could follow who was married/related/sneezed near the other.  Multiple plots knotted up within each other, and it was really tough to decipher it all.  It wouldn’t have been as difficult if I’d read the first two books, I’m sure.

One thing I especially liked about A Love Made New was that author Kathleen Fuller didn’t keep everything cheerful and demure.  It was curious to see how an Amish community might deal with tough issues.  Fuller wasn’t afraid to allow her characters to struggle a little with real-life situations.  The themes of grace, hope, and abounding love prevail in A Love Made New!

  1. I don’t like books with too many characters if the author can’t keep them straight for me.
