Let your inbox filter your emails – yahoo account users

Subscribing to brand newsletters or blog updates can be an excellent way to find great deals.   Just a few days ago I posted about the $20 Shutterfly credit that appeared in my Inbox.  Yesterday I received an email with a $20 magazine subscription gift, no strings attached.  In order to receive these great deals, though, it’s necessary to check one’s inbox on a regular basis.   Once upon a time I was able to keep my inbox cleaned out, but with just one day of neglect it completely overgrows.  Taking the time to filter your emails might seem as unlikely as locating the chupacabra.  In this case, I’m going to make it super easy for you.

My kids were home from school 2 days this week with strep throat.  Since they were listless and only wanted to watch TV all day, I was left with a few hours to burn.  That never happens at my  house!!  I tried to stay in the room with them in case they needed me, but wanted to be productive.  I decided to tackle my inbox which had over 10,000 emails sitting in the inbox.  It’s been so refreshing to open up my email and have fewer messages to deal with.  Within a day, though, the emails started flooding back.  I purchased a couple of ebooks, received survey invitations, and got some “happy mother’s day” notes from brands.

Then I noticed that I could have my inbox do the work for me.  If you have a yahoo account, check this out!

In the toolbar above your email preview, click the “More” dropdown menu.  Click on the “Filter Emails Like This” option.

Now, decide how you want to filter.  You can choose to filter by sender (example….all of my Amazon purchases will go into a specified folder.)  You can also filter by keywords like “winner” for those blog giveaways you entered.  Whatever you decide, make a folder to hold all those messages.

That’s it!!  Easy as can be.  It is a huge timesaver; in the course of a few months this will make my email navigable again.  I filtered my survey messages so that I can go through them when I have a few extra minutes.  The best part is that I don’t have to devote two or three hours to cleaning out my inbox ever again!

My account is the same way….go a day and you end up with a full inbox. It can be overwhelming and I sometimes miss an email for awhile. I didn’t know it was that easy to filter. Thanks.

  2. Isn’t that Filter option just the bomb! I wish I had a yahoo account now for my email. I get 600 emails a day a lot of it junk emails I never subscribed to in the first place but the more I unsubscribe the more that show up. That is why I don’t subscribe to some blogs that I normally would but I can’t read or go through what I have now. I currently have over 3,000 built up. I do email searches to check for winning notifications but if they don’t put one of these three words in the subject won, winner or Congratulations, I might just miss it which has happened resulting the loss of the prize. Not to mention it has no rhyme or reason on what it sends to my spam folder. So I have to check that too. Then I found just by pure luck because my local internet/email supplier switch from using their own server to using a gmail server I now have an online spam folder because my email goes their first then downloads to my outlook. So I have to check two spam folders. It’s hard enough to win a product from a blog giveaway but then to loose it because of junk email invading and overwhelming my inbox is so disappointing. Maybe it’s time to switch to a yahoo email account. Thanks so much for sharing this post.

  3. I have different emails for different purposes and use the filters on them all. Makes it much easier (but still a pain sometimes.)

Yahoo will help you consolidate your accounts now. You can log into multiple yahoo emails and switch between them. An easy way to keep up if you have multiple email addresses. I like that they are trying to make things easier and more organized for you.
