My husband comes from a hard working family. Everyone in his family has a very strong work ethic and it shows. Within the first few times I met his grandparents, I realized that his grandfather always had some kind of project going on at the house. When he ran out of projects at his own house, he started moving on to rental properties. My husband got that gene, apparently, because there’s always some kind of project going on here at the Savings in Seconds homestead, too. The other factor in the equation is that these men don’t believe in hiring out the work. Instead, they think the job’s not right unless they do it on their own. Which would be a good thing, except that my husband really doesn’t have time to devote to a DIY project on most weekends. We’re lucky if we make it to the grocery store to pick up some milk. Finishing an outdoor project just doesn’t make it to the short term to-do list most weeks.

When my husband’s grandparents came down for a visit a few years ago, they noticed that our outdoor lighting was in a sad state of disrepair. We had recently moved into a brand new home that had no landscape lighting and there was little street lighting since we were out in the country. My husband and his grandfather promptly went to the home improvement store and purchased landscape lighting, then spent the rest of the weekend putting it in. It looks fabulous! That’s a memory that he’ll always have with his grandfather and we think of him every time we look at the lights. I appreciated it so much because I know that landscape lighting repair can be a real backbreaker. His grandfather really wasn’t in the physical shape to get down on his knees to work on that project, yet he did it anyway.

Now that my husband is having some knee problems, I know that the next time we need some type of landscape lighting repair we’ll call a professional. After all, it’s way past the time that we need to ask grandparents to help us with our projects. No matter where you live, from Ft. Worth to New Orleans, don’t neglect calling an expert to find help in getting your home improvement projects completed!

  1. The only lighting we have are the solar lanterns from Walmart. They work pretty well for a sidewalk or walkway.

  2. Hopefully the lighting will last for many years and you won’t have to do anything with it.

  3. I remember doing repairs and digging, it isn’t fun to do underground lighting. Once it is done, it is very nice.

My hubby is the same way!! They work hard until the job is done!! I love that about him!! He’ll probably be that way until he’s 80 too 😉
