Well, we’re almost there!  This week we close on our current home, close on our new home, and move our whole lives to a new town.  We’re on pins-and-needles, hoping that everything works out the way it’s supposed to.  We’re grateful for the chance to serve in a new community, and hope that we can make this new house our home.  Since school started a couple of weeks ago, I won’t have time to devote to decorating the home the way I want.  My sister has provided some much-needed assistance, but we haven’t been able to get into the new house to really plan it out yet.  I recently heard about Homepolish interior design, which is an affordable, accessible way to get an interior designer’s advice for perfecting your home’s space.

Interior Design Services from Homepolish
1.  Let your Homepolish designer get to know you and your preferences.

Describe the setting where you need advice. whether it’s your home, office, store or something else. How big is it? What is your project budget? Do you own or rent? Don’t forget the emotional side of things. What inspires you? What does your ultimate dream space look like? They can handle any project, any size, and can help you with everything from picking paint colors to gutting a brownstone.  My biggest hurdle in the new house is maximizing our space. We are really changing our lifestyle with the new house, going from a 2800 sq.ft. 2-story home to a 1500 sq.ft. one-level.  We will need to be thoughtful, intentional, about the pieces we use in decorating.  I don’t want it to feel cluttered.

2. When you meet your Homepolish designer, keep an open mind.

Here’s what happens during your initial 1 hour consultation: meet your designer when they tour your space. Chat for a while. Your designer will follow up with a few design options for improving your home/office/whatever. They start with a one hour consultation so that the designer can understand your goals, needs and wants.   Homepolish wants the relationship between you and their designer to be as stress-free and helpful as possible. If during the initial consultation, you and your designer don’t get along perfectly, Homepolish will tweak the matchmaking process and send another on the house. The initial consult is $50 or $80 (Junior and Senior rates). There’s no pressure to buy hours after the consult.    I really like the idea of working with someone on my terms, in my space.  If the designer can get a feel for what I’m looking for, it can help the overall goal of making this a home.  We hope to create some outdoor living space over the next few years, so I hope that the Homepolish designer can include that as part of the final picture.

3. Final step? Purchase your designer’s time.

You get to choose how much you spend on your Homepolish designer’s time. One of the many reasons Homepolish is unique to the interior design world is because you purchase time by the hour. Every hour is spent working on what you need – from picking paint colors to sending you furniture options to renovating your loft. Whatever the size and however complicated your project is, they are there to help! Junior designers’ time costs $100 per hour.  Seniors’ cost is $130 per hour and they have two package options: a Single Day session (three hours) and The Design Package (as much time as you want with a minimum purchase of ten hours).  This is the part that I love! Someone who is ready to go full-force into a design project might be ready to spend $$$, but if you’re just getting ideas, you might want to stick with the low end of the price tag.  I like how Homepolish gives the client control.  I’d personally like to see some finished projects before deciding how much to spend, so that I know if the designer can follow through with my desired plans.

Does Homepolish sound good to you?  Would you like to rework your space with an expert?

  1. Interesting concept. I’ve been in my house for 30 years and I like it the way it is.

I like the idea and how much information you get to say up front. We all have different tastes and likes, and you want the designer to guide you not take control. Good luck to you on all the changes. Let us know how it goes and don’t forget to relax in there, too.

I think I would have a hard time giving up control but I do think it would be great for folks that really need help and ideas for their space.

  4. Sounds like a great service! I’ll have to check them out once we move.

  5. Awesome! I can’t wait to own a home someday!

  6. That’s a great way to get advice without having to pay for the whole deal! Congrats on the move!

  7. It would be interesting to see about a designer.
