My sister in law has a wonderful tradition in her family.  Each child receives a set of Christmas dishes throughout their teen years so that when they’re ready to establish their own home, they have special serving pieces to pull out for the holidays.  I thought my children would enjoy seeing special holiday plates but didn’t want to invest a lot of money into hard-to-find pieces.  I was so excited to find Create UR Plate which allows users to design and customize reusable decals for any occasion. Warning: give yourself plenty of time to play on this site because it’s addictive!  Here is a set of plates I ordered today:

You can add clip art, change the font (size and color), and even the size of the decal.   There are ways to get extra savings.  Sign up for the newsletter and get 10% off.   Now through October 31st, take 25% off fall and Halloween designs at Create UR Plate using the code TREAT25 at checkout!  If you don’t want plates that look exclusively Halloween-ish, check out the Halloween Owls. The Be Wicked Leaves pattern has a beautiful fall color scheme and the text can be to your own words (I used “Be Grateful”) or even your name.  These are perfect to use at your Thanksgiving gathering.  I selected a simple theme and changed the text on it.   It was easy to order these — really, it only took a few seconds to customize the plates the way I wanted them.  The decals are $1.99 each.

I also ordered a set of decals for Christmas.  There are so many adorable choices, it was hard to select just one!  The beauty of the Create UR Plate system is that you really could have a different decal for each place setting.  I’m old-school, though, and like to have matching plates.  I ended up getting the chalkboard design.  This totally got me into the Christmas spirit!!

After the holidays are over, I will be sad to remove the Christmas decals.  So to avoid that sadness I added a set of everyday chevron-style decals.  At only  $1.99 each, the reusable decals are an easy and affordable way to change up the look of the table without investing in a brand new set of dishes each time!  There are patterns of all kinds, with many color scheme options and graphics. You can also personalize the decals with photos and captions.  One of the plates I loved was the child’s artwork – you know those art projects that get sent home and stuffed in the closet?  Why not turn these into a plate decal!

Create UR Plate has so many fun holiday options - savingsinseconds.com

My only gripe about the site is the fact that plates come in sets of 6 ($29.99 for dinner plates).  I would like to be able to order in sets of 8, or perhaps 4.  I thought shipping was reasonable considering the fact that these plates must be well-packaged in order to arrive in good condition.  I’m excited to try this cool way to decorate for the holidays!  If you’re heading to someone else’s house for the holidays, consider making a set of plates for a Hostess Gift.

This is a cute and fun idea. I can see how this would really add a personal touch to a holiday, party, or present. Kids will love having their favorite color plates with a cute clip art. The decals are great too. Very creative and useful.

  9. What an amazing idea as a business – they really hit a specific niche didn’t they! I am curious about the stickers though – I wonder if they will become damaged easily. I LOVE the idea of giving a set of plates to the young ones as a gift though! I have never had matching plates or dishes of any real quality at all. LOL I get a lot of my dishes at the dollar tree and I am 45! I remember my grandmother having matching china, silverware, serving dishes etc for holidays. This is a really cool site and I can totally see myself getting addicted to it! Thank you for sharing!

    • I don’t know how durable the decals are, either. I’ll share once they arrive. Apparently you have to remove them before putting the plates in the dishwasher.

  10. That is such a lovely gift idea. I really like the one with the children’s art. I have so many pieces from my nieces and nephews. Thanks for sharing.
