Go ahead, call me an Army Brat. I’m proud of the time that my father and stepdad served in the armed forces. My dad was in the army (that’s how he met my mom in Okinawa!) and my stepdad served, too. During my childhood, we bought groceries at the commissary and shopped at the PX. My mom set up a savings account for me at the Fort Knox Federal Credit Union, which is an account I still use today. My stepfather arranged for us to have USAA membership as well. We’re very grateful for the benefits we’ve enjoyed through my family’s military service. This sounds like a great place for military families to bank whether they are going to buy a home or not. “Credit Union” rates are always better then the traditional banks–I wish I could join one.

My cousin and her husband are working on credit so they can claim their VA loan, I will have to share this article with them!
My husband is retired military and he bought a rental property with his brother on a VA loan. Vets get special rates (as they should)!

What a wonderful way for Military Families to own a piece of the US. I wish every serviceman or servicewoman had the ability to own their own. It seems fitting for their sacrifices.

Great info. My father proudly served in the Merchant Marines, and I have a son-in-law who has made the Army his career, and another son-in-law who served in the Air Force. One of my grand sons is considering the Marines as a career.

I live in San Antonio where just about every family we meet is military. It is great that there is a bank that helps families and understands the ups and downs of being in the military.
Wow. There’s so many things that soldiers face that we civilians don’t think about. I know I just take it for granted that I have the freedom to put down roots with no worries.

We are a military family too. And we actually just finished purchasing our first home with a VA loan. We are so grateful for this benefit as we wouldn’t have been able to get a home without it. Coming straight out of college with no income to a good paying job; we just didn’t have a down payment saved up. So we were able to get into a home without a down payment which was extremely helpful because our Mortgage payment is a LOT less than Rent would be in our area.

This is a really wonderful program. I know a lot of military families, and they have moved around quite a bit. This would be so great for them.
I think military families should get tax breaks and purchasing a home advantages over some who is not in the military. Great info, glad to hear it!
It’s a hard and scary thing to be in a military family, but it is something your should be proud of. I like that their are helps for them, and this post helps get the information out there in an easy format.

We used a VA loan to get our first home. It was so nice to have the option.
