April Fool’s Day savings

Many people claim that they don’t have time to use coupons or search for deals, so I came up with several ways to stretch your budget.  It is possible to save money without using coupons.  Most of these suggestions save a few dollars here and there which can really add up in the long run.  If you have ideas to share, please add them below!

Send your mail postage due.   A few weeks ago, I mailed a huge envelope of coupons to a lady. She emailed me complaining because she had to pay 14 cents; apparently I didn’t use enough stamps.  Seriously, who complains about 14 cents when you’re getting hundreds of coupons?????  Anyway, I realized that it was a great way to stretch those stamps.

Reuse your calendars.  Think about it: the numbers don’t change, the days don’t change…..just mark out the top part and write it in according to the new year.  Why don’t more people do this?

Borrow your BFF’s half-burned candles.   You know the ones that are used but she never gets around to burning all the way down?  Ask if you can have them.

Celebrate all of your holidays a day late, or at least in the evenings.  This gives you a chance to hit the stores for the marked-down holiday stuff.   Do your kids really care if they get an Easter basket in the afternoon instead of in the morning?

Pack your kids’ uneaten food and cover it with cheese for tomorrow’s supper.  Do this often enough and they’ll get so used to it that they’ll stop whining.

Set your clock back an hour at work.  When everyone notices that it’s 5:00 they’ll be so surprised!  No one will notice until they get in the car, and who is going to come back in?  This works for the babysitter too (she’ll think you came home an hour early.)

Check the office trash for blank junk-mail envelopes.  If you’re using the tips I shared above, everyone is talking about you anyway.  Might as well be a trash-digger and save on envelopes, too.  Just don’t lick them.

Oh, and by the way —

Happy April Fool’s Day 🙂

(I promise I really was just kidding about all of these ideas.  So if you try them, don’t blame the ensuing social ramifications on me!)

  1. Love it!! Ha ha!

As I began reading I was like WHAAAAAT? And should I really comment. I’m glad you put in that disclaimer. Whew! You’re normal!!!

  2. Great tips! I love the calendar one, I don’t know why I didn’t think of that before, especially when using it for the blog. I’ll have to try the time change. I have my clocks in the house set ten minutes faster, but an hour would be pretty good too!

    • LOL LaQuita I was joking—for April Fool’s Day!! But glad you can use some of them!

  3. Good one! You got me!! After reading the postage one, which I had to read 4 times to make sure I was reading it correctly, I didn’t know what to think 🙂 Thanks for the chuckle!

  4. Oh you so had me! I was so surprised by your reaction to the 14 cents and the reusing calendars! Very funny! Though we actually do celebrate some of our holidays after the actual holiday because my family is in Michigan and my husband’s is in Ohio so we often have two holidays and one is after the actual holiday. We do find we save quite a bit by buying after the holiday for the second celebration.
