The only GLUE for us

No matter your experience with back to school shopping, Elmer’s glue reigns as the brand we all know.  I remember all the way back to first grade when red-haired Todd used to put glue on his tongue and ATE it.  Yikes!  At least Elmer’s is non-toxic!

I still buy Elmer’s for my own children and for my classroom.  If you visited my language arts classroom, you’d see bottles of Elmer’s glue on my windowsill, and a HUGE gallon jug of glue that’s used to refill the bottles.  My students love keeping the bottles full for me!  This year, we have a fun new Elmer’s glue product to look forward to.

Glow in the Dark

Elmer’s new Glow in the Dark glue comes in three shades — blue, pink, and natural.  We received the blue one to try.  It comes out almost glittery, although it doesn’t dry with a glittery appearance.  The glue applicator works best when the glue is fresh, so always make sure to twist the cap tightly closed!

After putting the glue on this paper, I held it in front of the window for about 30 seconds.  It didn’t take long to soak up the light!  Then, I went into a dark closet and saw this:

You’d think that, at age 43, I would have outgrown the thrill from seeing glow in the dark stuff.  It’s still fun, people!  I felt such a ridiculous sense of accomplishment from seeing the glue glow.  Then, the grown-up teacher part of my brain thought, “At least this would be a positive side effect of my students using too much glue in their literature notebooks!”  I try to teach them that just a dab’ll do, but they still drizzle it on like chocolate sauce.  The blue glue would help improve their aim, right? Maybe they’ll look at the journals more if they could see the page glow in the dark!

You can get a great deal on glue sticks during back to school sales, and I love to send in extra to my son’s teachers.  It’s a need they always have!  For my own classroom, though, I prefer liquid glue because it tends to stick longer in our language arts journals.

Slime potential

If you know DIY kids who enjoy simple crafts, show them this recipe for Glow in the Dark slime!  With only 3 ingredients, it’s an easy crowd pleaser.

You can find Elmer’s products at retailers nationwide, of course.  It’s also available on Amazon!

We’d love to try making the glow in the dark slime. We love anything glow in the dark.

  2. I remember hoping that the Elmer’s Glue bottle was tightly sealed, so I would not have to use a paperclip to poke a hole in the top to open it after it had been unused for a while.

  3. I remember using their glue to make craft projects in school 🙂
