Disclosure: I received a free book to review for the blog tour. Opinions shared are mine.

So many in the bookish world are clamoring for stories that represent all walks of life.  Fresh Ink delivers on that count.  A compilation of short stories from various authors, these stories are a few pages each, yet carry a heavy punch.

One story I liked in this anthology was Why I Learned to Cook.  Sweet and satisfying, this story was like comfort food in words!

In my opinion, this book will probably be read by someone specifically looking for a “diverse” book.  With that in consideration, I’d give it a 4 star rating (again, for someone seeking that type of story.)

Though I understand why teens might want to read books with characters they resemble, I never felt that way as I grew up.  Maybe that’s why I’m taken aback when authors go out of their way to push for an alternative view.  Ironically, this book doesn’t contain stories about conservative teens, which would make it fully diverse for me.  In today’s do-and-say-anything world, following a more traditional path might just be the most diverse way to live!

In partnership with We Need Diverse Books, thirteen of the most recognizable, diverse authors come together in this remarkable YA anthology featuring ten short stories, a graphic short story, and a one-act play from Walter Dean Myers never before in-print.

All it takes to rewrite the rules is a little fresh ink in this remarkable YA anthology from thirteen of the most recognizable, diverse authors writing today including Nicola Yoon, Jason Reynolds, Melissa de la Cruz, and many more, and published in partnership with We Need Diverse Books. This collection features ten short stories, a graphic short story, and a one-act play from Walter Dean Myers never before in-print. It will give readers the opportunity to discover how the next chapter is up to them.

Careful–you are holding fresh ink. And not hot-off-the-press, still-drying-in-your-hands ink. Instead, you are holding twelve stories with endings that are still being written–whose next chapters are up to you.

Because these stories are meant to be read. And shared.

Thirteen of the most accomplished YA authors deliver a label-defying anthology that includes ten short stories, a graphic novel, and a one-act play. This collection will inspire you to break conventions, bend the rules, and color outside the lines. All you need is fresh ink.
