This lovely book cover might take your breath away, but wait until you read it!  Freedom’s Ring by Heidi Chiavaroli volleys back and forth between the Boston Marathon aftermath and the Boston Massacre.  Interesting contrast!

My husband loves to watch the show TURN, and we enjoyed a trip to the Williamsburg, VA area over spring break.  That’s probably why I loved reading about the Sons and Daughters of Liberty and the conflicts they encountered in the quest for freedom.

The Freedom Trail story relates to a modern-day plot line about the Boston Marathon.  The closest I’ve been to Boston, MA was at Liberty Square in Magic Kingdom (and my obsession with NKOTB), so it was fun to read of the landmarks in that legendary city.  It was heartening to think about the heroes who braved the terror of the bombing, and consider that there is still goodness in the world.

The author had a lovely way of tying together these two story lines in Freedom’s Ring.   Though the characters didn’t seem to have much in common, the prose worked well to blend their histories.  By the way, New Kids on the Block fans will be pleased to know there’s a reference in the book!  Also, I learned that electrical tape can be used as a bandaid in a pinch.  See, reading does teach you new things!

Thanks to Tyndale for providing me with a copy of this book!
