Finding God At The Kitchen Sink book review - savingsinseconds.com It made me chuckle to see the front cover of Finding God at the Kitchen Sink.  Its dirty appearance made it seem as if the book’s been splashed with some coffee or unidentified soup. Then I opened the book and noticed that the pages, too, are splattered with the same stains. It’s not unlike the stains of my soul before finding the redeeming love of Jesus.

Maggie Paulus could be my friend. She’s the kind of person who would text me and say, “It’s okay to let them watch the second run of Disney movie marathon, right?”  She knows what it’s like to be a mom, to come from a broken home and to want so much not to break your own home. She sees her superpower in her stretch marks. I mean, come on. This mama made a whole entire person!!  I know this because her stories are MINE.  I’m that mom who has her kids dressed up in faux fur trim dresses and metallic prints from  Janie and Jack while I wear my holey jeans and faded tees from college.  Taking advantage of the sales at Crazy 8 make me happy because my kids are happy.  Paulus turns all of those joys, tears, and dreams back into a love for God. She relates her son’s struggle to sleep with a Christian’s fight for control.  Her life story is seen as a blessing, not as baggage.  I love her outlook on those tough mommy moments.

The author sounds down to earth and real. A caring mom that knows it takes work, practice, and mistakes. The stains represent our imperfections but also our beauty. A good title, cover, and story.
