Now that the temperatures are cooling down, you might find yourself indoors with the kids more often.  Sometimes I pull out a surprise book or DVD just for these moments.  This month, it’ll be the board book Night Night Farm and the Octonauts Slime Time DVD.   Keep one of these in your fall entertainment stash for instant smiles from the littles!

Night Night Farm #giveaway - enter at savingsinseconds.com The cheerful rhymes in Night Night Farm carry a sweet, lulling rhythm.  The illustrations are adorable, with smiling animals that enjoy bedtime.  Familiar bedtime images, from a setting sun to stars in the sky, help kids to recognize evening as the time to settle down.   Share this book with a special child in your life, taking turns making the farm animal sounds.  It’s a wonderful way to end the day.

The Octonauts are familiar characters from the NCircle Entertainment library.  We have a small group from church meeting at our house this week, and some of the guests will be children.  It will be really helpful to have the Slime Time DVD to help entertain the little ones!  In these episodes, the idea of truly unique creatures becomes reality.   Have you ever heard of a slime eel?  Learning about exotic marine life is so highly engaging to children that they won’t even realize they’re learning!  I like that each episode ends with pictures of the real animals so that kids can differentiate between cartoon and reality.  Even though my son is 7 years old and likes to pretend that he’s too old for the Octonauts, he’s always happy to review it for me because he gets to watch it!
