Faith of Our Fathers DVD giveaway from #FlyBy #FaithOfOurFathers

My parents met while my father was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. I often wonder what led him there, and how he decided to marry a local girl. It fascinates me that my mom was so in love, with my dad and with me, that she would move across an entire ocean, across the world, to make a home here in the US. Fast forward a few years, and my stepfather comes into the picture. His life is changed by war, too. As he fought in Desert Storm, we sent him care packages and letters. It was difficult to watch the news, knowing what he was going through, yet we also knew that what we saw didn’t even compare to the horror he faced daily.  As I grew up and learned more about the history behind the wars, it made me appreciate the sacrifice of our servicemen and women like my dad and stepdad. I’m proud to come from such solid stock.  Faith of Our Fathers has war violence, as you knew it would, but it also softens the blows with the tenderness of a father/son relationship across time and space.  Like my family, these characters were affected by a war that changed their lives.

Aside from the unique story-within-a-story plot, this movie has a stellar cast.  Featuring names such as Rebecca St. James, Si Robertson, Candace Cameron Bure, this film is destined for greatness!  This movie is rated PG due to the war theme.  It’s perfectly appropriate for most teens, however, and I think it’s a really great way to start some strong conversations about patriotism, family loyalty, and bravery.  Some of the scenes are really hard to watch; the sadness and loneliness of the war just permeated my soul.  I really connected with the sons who went out in search of their father. My dad has been out of my life for decades, although for different reasons.  After watching this movie, I wondered (for the first time) if his experience in the war might have had something to do with the choices he made in life.

Another thing I liked about the Faith of Our Fathers movie is the Praying for Veterans website.  As we enter this time of thanksgiving, it’s so very important to remember those who are serving our country away from home.  Remember to pray for those men and women who protect our freedom every day.  They deserve our thanks, too.

Enter to win a copy of the Faith of Our Fathers DVD. You can find the movie at Family Christian as well.  To round out this package, I’m including a Family Christian $10 certificate that I received.  The giveaway is open to US/CAN readers ages 18+.  Void where prohibited by law.
