Scratch & Draw Enchanted Animals by Marisa Redondo

Disclosure: I received a free copy of this book. Opinions shared are mine.

We’re all thrilled that school is out for the summer, what about you?  This week we’ve had rainy days that kept us indoors, so thankfully this cool scratch art book kept the kids entertained.

Scratch & Draw Enchanted Animals has two appealing features that can be enjoyed separately or together.  The scratch art is created when you use the stylus (included) to “draw” on the paper.  Each of these pages is coated in a different color, so you can mix-and-match the pictures as you like.

The left side of each page contains a blackline image that can be used to freehand the scratch art.  Alternately,  you could use these as coloring pages.  I found it too difficult to try to “copy” the images, so I ended up doodling instead.

Back in the day, my friends and I created our own scratch art by layering crayon coloring over and over, then using a paperclip to etch away the color.  This book makes it so much easier!  I especially like the whimsical illustrations on the black-and-white pages.

Thanks to Quarto for sending me this book.

  1. Happy summer! I love the versatility of this book. It really gives options to engage creativity. You can definitely send some of those rainy days to Texas. It is VERY hot here!

    • I also live in Texas. Bring on the rain! I like the look of this book, I think it’s very interesting, though I wish there was a sort of “guide” instead of freehand drawing and doodling. Though, with skill, you may be able to use this book to test yourself to try, to pick up and move on when you make a mistake, and to also encourage yourself if you do well. Those with skill already may be able to make some really good art from this book. Good enough to hang on the wall!
