Easter has always been a special, contemplative time for my spirit.  Although Christmas is full of the hustle and bustle of gift giving and friendship, Easter is reserved for quiet moments of reflection.  When I received the book Easter Stories: Classic Tales for the Holy Season to review, I knew it would be one to remember. Initially, I was drawn to the book because of the inclusion of a  C.S. Lewis story.   As the book continued, there were so many other pearls of wisdom to be found!  New favorites such as Claire Huchet Bishop and Elizabeth Goudge now rank high on my list.  One lucky Savings in Seconds reader will win a copy of Easter Stories in this giveaway.

Easter Stories bring to mind the stark contrast between life and death, just as Easter signifies renewal and rebirth for Christians.  Each chapter of the book is just a few pages long. The literary quality of this book is best suited for adults, who will value the non-commercial meaning behind the stories. This is the perfect time to start a new tradition with your loved ones, or perhaps your women’s circle at church.  As you read the stories, enjoy the black-and-white illustrations that preface each chapter.  The beautiful woodcut images bring a visual to the stories of the heart.  In most of the stories, the vocabulary is rather old-fashioned and would likely need to be explained to younger children.  If you do choose to read this with the littles, I would suggest Robin Redbreast or The White Lily.  Click here to read a few of the special tales from Easter Stories!

I could learn a lot from these stories myself.

In my opinion, Easter is a more important holiday in the Christian church than any other. If it weren’t for our Lord being raised from the dead, there would be no Christianity. I would really love to win the book, simply because I know it would quantify my opinion.

Easter is so important to our Christian faith, and this would really help me bring that home to my grandkids.

  4. I love short story compilations and I’ve never seen a collection of Easter stories. I’d love to read this book. The only Easter novel I can recall is The Bronze Bow by Elizabeth George Speare and I highly recommend it.
